Different kind of preheater

I often do a lot of shorter trips and rather than wait for the coolant to reach high temperature -which doesn't always happen, I decided to give this whirl. It's a stainless steel section of 3" X 1/2" pipe held to the exhaust by a pair of hose clamps. If it becomes too hot for the fuel hose I could increase the length of the nipple. I wanted to start with a short piece to decrease the amount of heat absorbed by the vegetable oil. I could also mount it further down the exhaust. I'll play with pipe lengths and position on the exhaust until I get an arrangement where I get fast heat to the oil, but not too much heat for the hose or the oil. There's actually only a small spot where the pipe is in contact with the exhaust.

I have a feeling this might getting very, very hot...

But i might be wrong.

I feel this is a bad idea. If during low, or no fuel flow, the temperature may exceed the varnish point of the WVO. The product with be very detrimental to your injection system, from your IP to your injectors.

Temperatures of an exhaust exceed what you need to heat the WVO, say 65 to 100 c. Likely under most conditions, with air and WVO flows, you wouldn't have to worry about overheating.

Turns out it doesn't get very hot at all. After driving around town for awhile, you could grab the end caps with bare fingers. I think ill have to increase heat conduction to the pipe a bit; it was significantly less than 100 C.
