Guess what I've found! - fun poll

Post by Glenn Delwood »

The other day I was tinkering (inside) the van and I found something. I thought I'd share this fun unexpected find with a poll. Guess what it was.

Hint: it's useful.

I doubt a coin could derail a coin. As a kid I always lived by a track and put many coins on the tracks. Not hundreds because there were rumours they would stop the train and chase you but enough to not worry about it. I used to walk miles along the track routinely and I have also seen plywood cut up by the train.

I suspect it is a timer

The MLB has not turned up a coin, although I have discovered a number of items in her, such as hello kitty cookies, a ski pass from Hokkaido, some boy band CD and a girl band CD. *Since, however, my buddy Tak has provided the MLB with a five yen coin (the one with the sakura {cherry blossom} on it)*, which sits currently wedged between the binnacle and the deck of the front console.

I've seen a train derail a coin, seriously. Then of course there's the film "Super 8", 'cept that wasn't a coin that derailed the train ~ but what an awesome wreck!

I'm going with the timer.

Falco.

P.S.: *I just had a look at my coin and it has a wheat sheaf on it and I'm not not sure how many yen it's worth, I'll have to ask Tak again. Sorry, my bad*

Thanks for chipping in. I'm so surprised at the positive responses/wishes/guesses that I may have found a brand new IP pump. It wasn't it and I hope will not need one but it was fun to see your reactions. No coin, no burger, no tapes...
Falco got it. In case he is the only one that went with the timer. I've been thinking of putting a timer in, as I've been reading this forum more and more. Lately I've just been waiting to let the turbo cool off and while I was looking around, I found this little cable + device. Lo and behold, it said timer on it. So I turn on the engine, I turn on the newly found timer, get my keys ready to lock her up (in case it DID work) so I can figure out if it's gonna let me walk away from it with it cooling off by itself. It did. So now I'm letting it do its thing.
Falco you rock.

QUESTION: how long should I run the timer? :-)

I run mine for one minute. Just long enough for it to freak people out a little. Seriously though, I was hoping for a burger.

Well, I'd like to thank my producers and all the people who helped me win this coveted prize. Although I appreciate the cudos I must confer the honour to Dfnder who got it before me. Also, I must admit that when you said "timer" ~ I was thinking of something more along the lines of "egg timer", or one of those digital things that turn up under passenger seats.

I so relate to these sentiments. I get out of the wagon and people jump up and say: "My god man, are you just going to leave it running?! What about the environment?" I used to try to explain that by leaving her running for the added minute I was helping the environment by spooling down the turbo but they tend not to see that far. So what I do now is play on the relative exoticness of the Starwagon and show them my key and reply "I've engaged the shut-down process" as if everyone knows that and people respond "ahhh", knowingly and with a puzzled face ~ perhaps some still wondering if they have just been duped. But by then the motor stops.

Falco.

In Vancouver you get three minutes before they can give you a ticket.

Q1 how much does the turbo need?
Q2 is 3 minutes the max limit before you get the ticket? meaning, are you ok with 2:50? :-)

I believe that is only in Vancouver City, not the Lower Mainland, as far as I know. It's also very clear that thou shalt not idle for longer than three minutes... It doesn't mention anything about revving... When I was getting my system programmed, I was under the understanding that B.C. is fifteen minutes. Having said that I've seen many a semi tractor running for long periods of time, 'though they are usually running at higher revs, like 1100RPM ~ don't know if that makes a difference.

Regarding what the turbo needs: Around the Lower Mainland a minute is pretty good, I've got mine set to a minute. If you've just got off the Number One at the Rogers Pass services I'd be inclined to let the engine/turbo spool down for at least five minutes as everything (oils, water) is going to be pretty hot. With my system I have a remote start, which runs for twelve minutes then shuts down unless engaged by the key. In the case of an extreme hill, like a Rocky Mountain pass, I'll engage the remote start from the driver's seat and give the motor plenty of time to spool down. If, say ~ I've stopped for something a few blocks from home, then driven home a few blocks later on... I won't even engage the timer.
