Have you seen this?

Post by Rattlenbang »

Delica glow plug relay control module. I'm working on my system as my van was returned to me with the glow circuit totally dead.

For what it does, this is ridiculously overcomplicated. Seriously. Early 90's technology wasn't that backwards. You could build a robot that could take over the world with little more than that. I wonder if it was actually designed for a completely different application that Mitsubishi picked up by the shipping container cheap.

yes, Its common problem with this one as time goes by those resistor or components parts fail.
new is expensive. you can just do push botton with relay same as old diesel component and will works fine.

when mine goes I am thinking fitting a Mercedes OM617 controller ....dirt cheap and bullet proof...

Please feel free to steal this idea and figure it out....should be real easy to fit...and I think glow times are close...

If you need a new one, I'm selling a fully refurbished one for $200 (I put in a manual switch instead because the plugs I have are the wrong resistance).

At this point I'm looking for a circuit diagram for this kind of controller. The diagram I found on this site uses a single connector while mine has the two as shown in the above picture. I want to trace a few voltages before I start trying to fix this. I used to be an electronics tech so fixing it should be an option, but first things first.

Works awesome. Just make sure you use the 11V plugs, not the 7V quick-start version.

Ok, but why not use existing relay and glow plugs? I know about burning them out, so as long as you only zap them a short time. I don't think mine ever came on more than 3 seconds when the auto circuit was working.

Somewhere on this site is a post regarding how a member had an issue with his ECU and had it successfully repaired at a television repair shop for a nominal fee and a material cost of a $1.37 resistor. Also in the Engine Electrical manual starting on page 16-39, albeit a Pajero system, is a system check. Maybe worth looking at ~ hope this helps.

I might get around to troubleshooting the module, but for now I just popped in a manual switch. Works like a hot damn. What's interesting to not is that while it only takes a couple of secs of preheat to light her up instantly, if you don't give her a few jabs of glow plug once she starts, she stumbles and blows smoke for a few moments. A few pokes of the switch and it clears up and smooths out.
