glow plug ecu...what gives?
After scrounging the net and this site, all I can find is a circuit diagram that shows a fairly compact unit with a single connector, located behind the B pillar. I have a massive box with two connectors that looks more like an auto ECU. What gives? I can't seem to find anything that shows the kind of ECU I have. Am I working with the wrong component? I have the two relay, dropping resistor system which is supposed to be the most common, and yet the ecu doesn't look anything like schematics and the manual shows.

The ECU is in the pillar behind the drivers seat and the relays etc are on the firewall under the hatch behind the drivers seat.
They're awkward to get at without removing the seat and the air filter hose.

The complicated, super-quick glow system seems to have been fitted only to Delicas, most of the online help seems to point to systems fitted to less awesome L300 models with more basic systems.
If it's a huge tin box with 2 connectors then you've found the correct part. My experience was that a couple of capacitors near the middle burst, then the circuit board corrodes. Replacing the capacitors, then fixing the damaged circuit board traces with tinned wire fixed my ECU right up and had it working perfectly.
Fitting non-genuine glow plugs broke it again. I think it senses the resistance of the plugs to determine how hot they are, aftermarket plugs seem top have not quite right resistance ranges.

Nothing says "poor workmanship" more than wrinkles in the duct tape.

Yup, I saw that. There are a pair of leaking electrolytic caps. Pc board looks okay though. But so far I'm appreciating the control I have using a push button.

I just by passed the whole works with a momentary switch, solenoid, circuit breaker and 11 volt glow plugs.
I just glow it for about 10 seconds and it starts right up.
Aside from the glow plugs I think the total cost was about $35.
