Re: Mighty Yeti Upgrades
Hey Fred
You can test the EGR valve by blowing into the vacuum line and seeing if the diaphragm moves. If it's seized, a good cleaning may work it loose. If it still won't budge and is truly seized, then either replacing it or blanking it off will be your best option.
On mine, it was very clean and the diaphragm operation was smooth. The reason I removed my working EGR valve is for heat reduction. My exhaust gas temperature went down 90-130 degrees after removing the EGR valve. That was a considerable improvement for a working EGR.
Cheers and you are doing some wonderful mods on your rig!

Do you have the part number for the led light you got to replace the fluorescent bulb? Sounds like an awesome set-up!

Here is the link for the LED dome lights. You could also get the single light instead of the double. But so far so good. Easy install and provides lots of lights.

Well, cleaning the EGR was a "day and night" improvement. It seems to have a better airflow in the EGR, so no more hard starts as it use to be. The van starts at first crank even at -10!!! Still some black smoke, but I think this is totally normal. Also I did notice an increase in power. My next mod will be to add a Pyro.

Oh, I didn't realize it was a separate unit! I thought it replaced the fluorescent tube in the cl roof lights.

Re: Mighty Yeti Upgrades

I do not want to be a killjoy but seeing those pictures where Fred is sandblasting I notice no evidence of what is known as "dead-man switch" on the blasting hose. That is highly irresponsible of the company which is providing such service. There is 100PSI in that hose and the speed with which the sand is propelled out of it is about 350MPH. If an operator is, even for a fraction of a second, inattentive it could be tragic! Be VERY VERY careful operating this kind of equipment!

Delicove, there is a valve on the handle and I was holding to it just in case.

Re: Mighty Yeti Upgrades
hey fred, a few questions.
what brand of rockguard did you use, and after all this time, how is it holding up to cracks or rock chips?
how long did it take you to remove the whole front panel? it looks like a huge job.
can you recommend anything to make the job easier?
my delica really needs this done badly.

Re: Mighty Yeti Upgrades
Almac,
I used the Rock Guard brand sold at Canadian Tire, the spray cans. It is holding up pretty well after 2 years. Only on the front panel. I painted over it so the paint cracks. But the bull bar is still looking very well and the plastic is starting to show some fading on it. So I can just spray some more and it will be good for another 2 years.
In terms of the work, for me if anything has to be done I will do it properly. It takes time yes, but it will last and hopefully look good. Beside, by removing the parts, you might find a few things here and there and you will also learn how to remove them. Next time it will be faster. For me, that was not a huge job compared to removing the turbo, replacing the parts in it and putting it all back together in one shot and it is working (fingers cross). Now for me THAT was a huge job. But I took my time and drank lots of beer!
It is worth it to sand it and paint it with rockguard. I am contemplating to have the whole van done professionally actually.
Good luck!
Fred

Re: Mighty Yeti Upgrades
i'm actually considering rock guarding the front from the headlights down, including the bull bars.
i'm also thinking of taking off all the plastic rocker guards around my van(a few came off already), and rock guarding those areas.
I bought a compressor yesterday; i'm getting ready.
i'll probably get it done after the deli meet in july.
