I just picked up my 97 L400 Space Gear SWB from New West today. Of course the battery was stone dead so I guess that will be my next purchase as it doesn't look like it's going to take a charge.
I should mention the people at ABC Customs Brokers. Dave was very pleasant, patient, efficient and awesome to deal with. All of the staff there were incredibly helpful and very nice. What a great way to run a business. I would recommend them to anyone.
One thing I am dealing with is how dirty the interior is. The carpets have been cleaned recently. But there is a sticky black soot type layer throughout the interior. Its like it sat inside a closed shop with a diesel generator or something running for a week. The soot is everywhere. I managed to clean all the vinyl, dash, door panels etc. I used a a product called 'Spray9'. It worked better than any other cleaner I have ever used. Even the back of the headlights when I took them out is covered with this black soot.
Has anyone else experienced this? I am wondering if it's a product of the vehicle being driven in a city that has many more diesel engines adding to the pollution, or if it was used at an industrial facility or something. The van is in great shape, as is the paint and the interior.
So....I am looking for a good detailer. Preferably one with a steam cleaning machine to get this muck out of the seats, hood liner and carpets. I have read the 'detailing' posts but there aren't any recent ones. I did contact a couple of the guys on here where it was indicated they did detailing but they are too busy and don't do it anymore.
Does anyone have any specific recommendations?

Re: Detailing Shop Recommendation
I called Kurtis at 'Unique Mobile Detailing'. Jon came right to my place and detailed the entire interior - seats, carpet, headliner, windows. Did a great job. Looks and smells much better now.
