And to answer your query for sound deadening. Look at a product called dynamat. It comes in rolls and is applied between the interior trim panel/carpet and the inner sheet metal. The stuff works great but its not cheap.

There is aslo a roofing product called 'peel and seal' from home improvement stores that some people have tried with some measure of success. I do not endorse these products. Decide for yourself.

Also be careful of the physical size of replacement speakers for the rear. Many modern 6x9s are too deep and won't fit the aperture.

Yup, I'm currently returning a set that is too deep. Even though I measured and measured, the info on the site (sonicelectronix) was misleading. Top mount size does not mean from the top to the bottom of the speaker. I guess I need to look for what they call "shallow mounting".

My reply is with regards to your question number three only. I also have a Royal and the karaoke system is intact. My only music comes from the CDs with the changer under the passenger seat. I also have an amp under the driver seat. And I have two microphones semi permanently attached into the input jacks at the back control panel.

So my other source of entertainment is when my two toddlers sing to their hearts content when we are on a long trip or sometimes when we are just coming home from grocery shopping. I have not experimented on it myself but there are three other input jacks on that panel (yellow, red and white). I am sure that with a small tv, you can have a complete karaoke system or at least have the sounds of that tv come out thru the van's "surround" sound system.

I am sure you know that if you replace the Japanese (limited band) radio, the slave at the back becomes useless along with the cd changer and amp system.

Phil LuckyDad :) what kind of jack do you have going in the mic? Is the headphone 6.3 adapter and the stereo mic 6.3 exactly the same? Meaning, can I use it for either adapting regular headphones to the bigger jack headphone type? Also, HOW do I make the mic work? i.e. Which setting do you use? Couldn't seem to make mine work - I have a small lapel mic that I plugged in with a 6.3 adapter and nothing happened. Thank you.

BTW, I just replaced all my tweeters. SOO much difference. Soo much. No other changes - not even the little resistor or whatever thingy was connected from the wires to the magnets of the original one.
Definitely worth the 7 quid or so a pair.

I do not know the sizes but I think the adapter would be the same. The microphones I have are the common ones used in PA systems so I do not need any adapter. Looking at the slave unit, you could see a bigger knob marked "power - volume". Turn it to on position and you have music from radio, cassette or CD. The volume part is for the radio/CD just as in the dash controls. Next to it are two smaller knobs. Top knob is for karaoke volume and bottom knob is karaoke echo. Plug your mikes into either of the two "holes" on the right and if your system is still working, you got karaoke. Does not matter whether you are listening to radio, cassette or CD, the karaoke should work.
I have not tried the VTR part but I think if I had a small TV and connect it to that, I should get the TV sound coming into the van speakers. Maybe?
