Deli in the USA

Post by RadarGrrl »

Maybe a similar thread has seen life before, maybe not...

Can a BC registered Deli safely go across the border to the States without any hassle? I know they can't own one there that's under 25 years old, but what about a Canadian on holiday? The borders are all nuthouses these days...

I take my Pajero across all the time - Idaho, Montana, Washington - and never a hassle. Seattle is fun, as not many RHD get down there and have people just about drive off the road, mouths agape, lol. My favourite was some guy in Tacoma dressing me down for letting my daughter text (with both hands) whilst apparently driving... I popped my steering wheel up high enough that he could see it (he was in a small sedan) and told him to mind his own business.

Love RHD (have 3).

That's priceless! There was another thread recently about backing through a Tim's drive-thru. Thanks for the tips.

Remember the days when you'd go stateside with a Canadian vehicle equipped with daylight running headlights and get flashes at continually by the Americans? Maybe that still happens...

Just arrived home from an Oregon trip yesterday. My with did all the talking from the passenger seat. Perhaps they did not notice as it was business as usual.

RadarGrrl...no, we drove up through the Peace Arch..Both ways actually.

bbisset.... Thats funny about the Texting. One thing we noticed is how many people text in drive in Washington and Oregon. It really makes for terrible driving. Now that BC has been text free for a few years perhaps its more noticeable when you see it. We laughed because a few of the more unaccepting folks we saw down there of RHD were texting and literally in and out of their lane.

Cellphone use (either voice or text) while driving has been illegal in Ontario for some time as well. It was still rampant when I left a month ago. I saw it right across the province...Trenton, North Bay, Kapuskasing, Thunder Bay, Kenora...texting everywhere.

Which reminds me of something I should find out about in the Comms thread. Apparently it is also illegal in Ontario to use a handheld microphone, like, for a CB radio or VHF mobile. Is this the same for BC as well?

I'm not sure about the CB radio but as for HAM licenses: VHF (or HF & UHF) mobiles are exempt from this act in Canada. You will find this information on the Industry Canada website.

This is nice to know, although maybe I should keep a copy of the appropriate RIC handy in case some overzealous cop thinks otherwise.

ive crossed the border a bunch of times in my L300. never have had any issues.
I've got some amused looks from the people in seattle. once came out of a store in the 'U' district, and had half dozen people gawking at my deli. :-)

was in lineup waiting to cross back into Canada when I was approached by a few DHS guys checking for firearms. I gave them the 'deluxe tour'. they were more interested in 'tessen' than in doing their jobs. was hilarious! :-D
