Here is mine. It's a '94 that I brought over in 2009 through Terra2. They are now defunct.

Re: Japanese Motorhomes
I'm not sure what you mean by motorhome category. Mine required some typical changes, including new tires that are DOT approved, plus some minor electrical mods. But there were no changes required that were specifically related to motorhomes. All of the components inside were fine, including stove, fridge, heater, bathroom, water heater, etc. Actually, few of them were Japanese in origin....coming mainly from Europe.

Re: Japanese Motorhomes
i mean thru motorhome category when u insured it thru icbc.
you need to inspect the motorhome thru motorhome category not just a car.
it has diff rate and u need this inspection.
many people don't know but if anything happen thru this car like leaky propane, electrical component for 110V and the complete vehicle burn.
they would investigate this and if there is no proof that it pass motorhome inspection thru the propane ,fridge and other they might
not covered it.
my client want to do full coverage so we went to the right direction and lots of work.
maybe u don't notice this type of category but that's how icbc want to do for full coverage on this.
as you need to do modification on it.
cheers

Re: Japanese Motorhomes
I never did purchase one of these motorhomes. I couldn't find one at the right price point. Good ones are expensive and my insurance would be hgh as it's right hand drive. I've got a Winnebago LeSharo that I pay only $400 bucks a year to insure as it's only driven once in a while. But the company that insures it won't touch RHD vehicles.. :(
I still really want one but it's hard to justify the cost. That's what got me on to the idea of camperizing my Delica. With a little inginuity, there's some cool options out there. Maybe not as luxurious, but functional for sure.
I'd like to see more pics of that camper too:) Please post

Re: Japanese Motorhomes
Mardy,
There was no problem registering my camper with BCIC. I did it in January 2010 at the vehicle registration office near Crown Tech Auto. The vehicle required standard conversions for North American driving, including an electrical change to force headlights to be on at all times. It also required running lights and new tires. But there were no issues with the camper itself and it is registered as a camper. And yes, it has propane, including stove, heater and hot water heater on board. The refrigerator was also propane but I changed it this year to only 12 volt. I used to insure it year round but this year only for 6 months for about $600.
Falco...picture is posted above. Do you want another one?

Re: Japanese Motorhomes
I was thinking more of interior images, how the camper is laid out. You have a unique machine that would make for an interesting photo essay in Member Rides. Just a thought.tigger wrote:Falco...picture is posted above. Do you want another one?

Re: Japanese Motorhomes
I second that Falco:) As I mentioned in an earlier post, there was one of these campers for sale near me in Barrie Ontario. It looked pretty sweet and was advertised for $18,000. A little pricey for me but cool just the same....

Re: Japanese Motorhomes
A different approach perhaps, but good to add to the conversation perhaps...
A friend of mine imported a 1981 Mercedes diesel camper from Germany. Excellent deal, did the importing himself.
Parts are easily available and the overall quality is very high.
Coming straight from Germany gets you a left hand drive or alternatively Britain gets you a LHD with out the language barrier.
The T1 was replaced in Europe by an earlier version of the sprinter before it was marketed in North America in 2006. Therefore you can get basically a sprinter camper for $20k all in.
I'm planning on getting myself something very much like this...

Re: Japanese Motorhomes
Falco, I don't have a lot of interior pictures but if you google japanese campers you will get a good idea of what they look like. Most of them look the same. Side entry. Sink and stove at the back. Biffy in back left corner. Heater on passenger side, in the middle of the unit. Cupboards high along both sides.
I think there must be a standard camper unit that fits on a chassis. I have seen pics of Izuzu that look identical to mine inside. I will check an old computer to see if I still have interior pics.
I changed out the radio when I bought it because Japanese radios operate on a lower frequency band and cannot pick up our FM stations.
One thing I need to do is put in a cruise control for long trips. This summer i drove from Squamish to Saskatoon to Whitehorse and back to Squamish. Very hard on my right leg as I am over 6 ft tall.
Edited to add that I tried to upload an album, titled My Delica Camper, but I don't think I was successful. Meanwhile, here is another picture taken a couple of years ago while camping.
Edited again to add another pic.
I should add that I know of at least one other camper like mine....located in Whistler and owned by a guy who used to be a professional kayaker. I saw it during the Ironman, in the lower parking lot.
