delica 2.2 diesel

so... the L300 continued on production for many years as a truck only. In 2000 it came with a 2.2 l diesel. Does anyone have any info on this engine? What it was called, or some stats...

just idle curiosity really, but if it was a cool motor might make an interesting swap someday (know it would fit into my l300 van).

The D5 has a 2.2
Don't count on it being easy to swap in... harness... totally different components..

I think the late model 4d56 did engines might make a good swap but i would install without the intercooler and get it de tuned to suit.

so the sk22 motor that came in the delica truck/van in the late 90's/ and into the 2000's is the motor i'm asking about. i can't seem to find anything about this motor! can't even find if it's turboed or how much horsepower it had. This is not the Brand New 4N14 2.2 l...

If you are looking for an engine swap you are better off looking for something locally picked. You will find people with more know-how and an overall easier job on the swap. There are probably lots of options for dropping another engine in there. If you are directly looking for one of those engines though, I bet some of the importers have lines on them.

there is options for other motors.. i just can't seem to find ANY info about that exact motor, and can't figure out which motor it is. I was just curious if anyone knew anything about it..

this engine isn't on wikipedia... it's the 99-2007 delica L300 2.2 L diesel.
might be a mazda engine..??

The only place I saw mention of a Delica Truck with a 2.2L engine was here...and it doesn't mention fuel type.

There's no photographic proof on that page of the vehicle let alone the engine.

Mitsubishi developed twelve families of straight-4 engines: There are currently 4 classes of Mitsu Diesel powerplants for the auto-industry.

• 4DR — Two 2659 cc straight-4 normally aspirated and turbodiesels, 4DR5 and 4DR6, fitted to some Canter light trucks, and also fitted to the company's Jeep which it built under licence from Willys between 1953 and 1998. The naturally aspirated 4DR5 produced from 75 to 80 PS (55 to 59 kW), while the turbocharged and intercooled versions produced a torque of 22.5 kg/m (220.65 Nm) at 2000 RPM and had a compression ratio of 21.5:1, with a maximum power of 100 PS (74 kW) at 3,300 rpm. The direct injected 4DR6 has a lower compression ratio of 17.5 producing a torque of 21.0 kgm (205.94 Nm) at 2000 rpm with a maximum power of 94 PS (69 kW) at 3,500 rpm [1]
  4D5 "Astron" diesel — Also part of the "Astron" family, the 2.3 L was the first diesel engine to be fitted to a Japanese passenger car. The subsequent 2.5 L version, introduced in 1986, is still in production, a popular choice in its line of pickup trucks where it is regarded as rugged, reliable and inexpensive to maintain.
  4M4 — Mitsubishi's replacement for the "Astron" diesel, available as a 2.8 L, and later as a 3.2 L with direct injection.
  4N1 — New family of next generation clean diesel engines, to be introduced in early 2009 (this is where the 2.2 TD first came into being)

What would be interesting is if someone took a Mazda RX power plant and put that in a Delica L300. That would be wicked!

if you ever check out any Japanese auctions, you will see that from 99 on the L300 trucks came with a 2.2 L diesel instead of the 2.5. the code is usually SK22, with a TM or LM at the end (SK22LM or SK22TM)...

I see some places it is referred to as R2 engine.. i believe that is a mazda, if I am not mistaken.. here is a pic

ok, so that last picture was inside a 2002 Delica..

here is a pic of one from a Mazda - i'd say that would be a confirmation. The Later Mitsubishi's came with Mazda R2 diesel engine... interesting.

i wonder if any of the later, more performance R2's came in the Delica.... :), or, how hard one would be to put in my L300??

I think I know why the Delica Cargo trucks might have a Mazda Diesel engine.

According to Mazda: In Japan, the Delica Cargo nameplate was used on badge-engineered Mazda Bongos between 1999 and 2010. Since 2011, the Delica D:2 name has been applied to a rebadged Suzuki Solio.

Looks like Mitsu and Mazda pulled a partnership which explains why a Mazda Diesel is in the Delica Cargos...they are actually a Bongo!

apparently it is an extremely tough and robust gear driven motor.
i don't know how powerful it is though - some of the earlier R2's were pretty gutless

anyways, another option if someone wanted to do a motor swap.
