Rhythmic braking noise

So, I just noticed this on my way home today and it's going in to the shop first thing in the morning to have it assessed, but I'm wondering if anyone has any insights. I hate taking it in blind and having to believe them.

Under braking there is a rhythmic noise, almost sounds like a branch or bag is hitting the underside as it goes around. I actually thought it was someone hammering a nail into a 2x4 at first but then I realized there was no construction around. It seems like it's in time with the revolutions of the wheel. When I brake in reverse, it doesn't happen.

No squeal or pull in the brakes. The pedal pulses slightly, but it has for a while, I think I need to grease the sliders, possibly new rotors. Also, the pedal doesn't pulse in time with the noise.

Pads were recently changed, should be loads left.

Any thoughts? I'm thinking maybe a shim fell out and the pad isn't sitting quite right anymore when force is applied and if the rotors are slightly warped it may cause the pad to thump around.

Recently changed doesn;t really mean anything.. if you have seized caliper you could burn through an inner pad in a matter of a month. Pull your wheels off and have a look. remember to check both inner and outer pads (uneven wear indicated stuck caliper or sliders). Also check to to ensure that the pad backing has not slipped or even worse you are missing a caliper bolt and under braking the caliper is flipping out and hitting the rim.

Ok, I'm going to hang out at the shop while they're doing it, so I'll have a look. Normally I would try and gettin done myself but I don't have the time right now. The pad backing sounds like a possibility. Its not a metallic noise by any means, sounds very much like a hammer on wood. Thanks!!

Nothing beats having a look. a pounding or slapping with rotation sure doesn't sound like brakes; sometimes it's just the torque forces that happen with braking that causes a noise, while not having anything to do with the brakes themselves. A quick look should show something once the wheel is off. Bummer when we get so busy we gotta pay the shop rate for work we could do ourselves.

Front left calliper was sticking apparently and a little rusty and not awesome on the inside. My guy called around for replacements and the earliest he could get them is maaaaybe Monday. BUT he know someone who does rebuilds and he's sending mine out right now and they'll be back in tomorrow. Whee!!

Since a lot of my work is on call, no van means no money, so I'm very happy that it's only out for one night and I can get a ride to work tonight anyways. Huzzah!

Hopefully I can push the rotors off for a little while longer, shipping those out here is a pain...

So, brakes rebuilt and it's lovely. My mechanic said that the piston was sticking and there was some rust in the slider bolts, so lesson learned to grease them when I grease the u-joints. Every time!!

Would have saved me some headache. Now that they've been rebuilt locally I wonder if the quality will be any better? I know some people have had horrible luck with brake parts.
