Sliding door won't open

Post by hotplate »

Well somehow I'm guessing the lock broke in the sliding door of my L300 and now I cannot get the door open. I seem to recall having the same problem with my last L300. Has anyone else had this problem and know how to fix it? thanks

This may be the dreaded cold lock phenomenon.
It's almost like the power isn't enough to unlock the side door to unlock it?

I kept cycling the lock from the drivers door till it opens.

That happened to me once while camping. I had a plastic bag hanging from the side step hand grip. The plastic bag accidentally got caught in the sliding door and covered the sensor (kind of an oval shape with two contacts for when the door closes). I couldn't even pull the lock up manually. My fix was easy, I just pulled the plastic bag out. Then it was fine. Maybe you have something caught in there or a dirty connection.
Sorry I can't help you further.

This happens to me all the time when dummies hold the handle when i unlock the door. my solution? get in close my door, sit on the console and lock the doors with my right hand on that knob and pull up on both that knob and the sliding door knob at the same time. I have a +3 ape index though and long arms, so depending on how long your wingspan is it may not work so well haha

thanks for the replies guys, I've gotten in there and messed around with the lock, no luck so far. I may have to just take it to CCA while I'm home on the island this christmas.

Um...not sure if this is the same problem, but a couple of times I've had trouble with the interlock mechanism on the side of the door. It's a springy thing with two contacts, and I think it's supposed to prevent the door from locking if it's not fully shut, so you don't think it's safe when it isn't.

But the contacts on the outside get dirty, and then the door lock doesn't go up or down anymore.

I'm guessing the door shut and locked, and then some corrosion opened the contact, so it thinks the door is ajar and won't activate the lock. Maybe?

You can probably remove the interior panel of the door to access the mechanism, short the contacts, so the system knows the door is shut.

Unless of course...somebody flipped the child safety lock, and the sliding door can only be opened from the outside. :) Maybe try that before you go taking stuff apart.
