Mitshubishi dealership - JDM cars?
How are the Canadian Mitsu dealerships treating JDM car owners?
I heard that Subaru dealerships suppose to not to sell any parts to JDM cars.

Re: Mitshubishi dealership - JDM cars?
I have purchased clips for rubber mouldings and interior panels from Platinum Mitsubishi in Calgary but that's because my L400 uses many of the same clips domestic Mitsu's use. You can even troll the wrecking yards for the Chrysler/Eagle/Mitsu cars.
IE: Eagle Talon, (Plymouth Laser), Dodge Colt.
Items like interior dome lights, breakers/fuses, speakers and such all fit in the Pajero's and Delica's
Platinum Mitsu does have an electronic parts list for many JDM Mitsu's. I have seen this with my own eyes and used it as well.
The drawback: New OE parts are quite expensive when purchased through a Canadian Mitsu dealer.
Why not use the local guys who bring the Delica into Canada?
Amazing Auto
Coombs Country Auto
Rising Sun Imports
Rocky Mountain Imports
there are a few more that escape my memory right now.

Re: Mitshubishi dealership - JDM cars?
The local Mitsu Dealership here in Peterborough, Ontario were quite fascinated with my L300 when I went there for the first time. They actually have a similar but smaller version (like a mini truck but a van) wrapped in their dealer logos.
They couldn't help me with any parts and weren't that excited to work on it. You guys are lucky in BC. I get all my parts from Rising Sun. They emailed me the entire workshop manual and now I have a good friend who's a master mechanic at the local VW Dealership working on it when necessary. This has worked out well but it would be amazing to be able to just go to a garage that specializes in them right off the hop.
An interesting side note. This local Mitsu Dealership told me they could have sold that mini van they use for advertising several times over. Everyone wants to buy it but according to them, it's never gonna be for sale....

This experience comes from the motorcycle industry, but also applies to cars.
Mitsu dealers (most likely) only have access to info/parts for vehicles sold in Canada - so they won't want touch an import of any kind.
Cross referencing from this site and the web is the best way for parts. Find a local shop that specializes in Japanese cars - preferably with a Japanese mechanic that may have worked on Deli's in "the Old Country".

Japanese mechanic in Edmonton?
I don't think so ;).
Give me one that at least knows what is doing ;).
Its a small town with limited options...
The reason I asked, I know that Subaru dealerships won't touch JDM cars and not suppose sell parts for them, apparently this is legally enforced by Subaru Canada.
It seems its not the case with Mitsu.

Re: Mitshubishi dealership - JDM cars?
Mitsubishi wasn't "able" to find parts for my vehicle, even when I gave them the part number for a domestic vehicle. Went back the next day with the same number but hid my vehicle around the corner and told them I was driving an Evo, then they told they could have the part in a week.

Re: Mitshubishi dealership - JDM cars?
So true. In essence they figure that by not making money off us by selling us parts we will give up this silly Delica thing, throw our wagons away and buy a $40,000.00 SUV off of them. Makes perfect sense. I wonder if this has anything to do with the North Van Mitsu dealership having to close and re-open in a smaller premises in a cheaper part of town?nxski wrote:Mitsubishi wasn't "able" to find parts for my vehicle, even when I gave them the part number for a domestic vehicle. Best to park around the corner, as you say and just give them the OEM parts number ~ or give your money to another supplier altogether.

Re: Mitshubishi dealership - JDM cars?
I have a fundamental pet peeve with any parts supplier who throws their nose in the air and feigns ignorance.
I was a mechanic for several years before switching careers back in the late 90's and I never had the issues you see today where parts systems rely on the internet and what ever database the factory gives(sells?) a dealership. The parts guys knew so much more about shared parts. Its a dying art.....too bad.

Mitshubishi dealership - JDM cars?
I've been to Langley Mitsubishi with my pajero and the manager actually had a swb pajero himself. They attempted to help me but could not find any parts that would work for my pajero because even if I looking for interchangeable parts from the montero. They couldn't even get their hands on that so its not that they wouldn't sell to me but rather they couldn't access the parts

I suspect it's a combination of both lack of knowledge and dealership policy. The guys over at Speedway VW will track you down all kinds of stuff for very old Volkswagens, even though most of it isn't German or VW parts. They didn't make a dime out of your 68 baywindow, but they will help you find all kinds of oddball stuff for it. Tech advice too. Hell, their parts guys are even on the VW forums helping out. They support the hobby over there, even though they could refuse to sell parts or service the old stuff.

Dealers, I have always found useless unless you have vin that resides in their system. I worked as a heavy duty part man for some years in the late 90's/00's, and I still go back to them...they usually have multiple catalogues for all sorts of vehicle systems at their disposal, but especially they usually have the aptitude to source parts out from multiple manufacturers. I have never had good service or quality parts from dealers foreign or domestic either...

Re: Mitshubishi dealership - JDM cars?
Falco, this parts guy called the national number for the distributor and they didn't have the parts I needed so he ordered from Japan. Pay for them when I get them, so that's pretty good. They think Delicas are cool and anxious to support them as best they can.
