So I'm doing my timing belt and at the same time trying to fix a few leaks, so I'm under the van tinkering and swearing.. and I've never really paid any attention to the waste gate. Naturally, I have to give it a poke.. which leads to my question.. should you be able to move the actuator? I figured it would be easy to flap back and forth since the whole thing works on a difference in air pressure anyway (I think), but mine is pretty solid. Feels siezed almost.. or I'm making mountains outta mole-hills.. again.
Anyway, haven't found an answer in the tech section yet but I'm gonna keep searching..

Ok, it seems that I was a bit quick to post.. shoulda searched a bit gooder.
Although I don't have a definitive answer, it seems this is a very common problem and tomorrow I'm going to soak it in penetrating oil and see if it'll move.

Lubrication can't hurt with the actuator. Especially if it doesn't get driven a lot. I always make a habit of doing this on a turbo vehicle when doing other maintenance such as oil or air filter change regardless if there's signs of problems.

So I soaked it in penetrating oil and waited a few hours..
Nuthin'.. didn't move.
Soak and wait..
Still the same.
So I disconnected the rod from the actuator and the valve moves.. but only like 30 degrees. I figured it would move a full 90 degrees. The actuator doesn't want to move at all and I'm not sure if it will only move with the engine running or if should have some movement up and down while cold.
So.. is this normal? Anyone want to go wiggle their's and tell me if it's the same?
