Dibbs on the first D5!

We intend on being the first to obtain a D5, started saving our pennies, and cant wait for 2017. I will begin sourcing the machine in 2016 so that I can plan the sale of my current rice roller.

It is going to be black on black, and lifted. However I was thinking that getting an OOP on a lifted/modded unit will be tough so I will purchase the kit and have it shipped with the van- that is my plan man.

What is the word on the street regarding these machines? bigger / better? anything to watch for? What about cost projections?

Anyone else gearing up for this as well?

Lots of goodies available. The AWD 2.4 gasser model is very similar to the drive train found in many of their domestic platforms currently in Canada. But the power to weight ratio means this motor has to work harder. If you lift it the stock engine is going to be overtaxed depending on the tire size.
The D5 has no LOW RANGE 4WD GEAR IN THE TRANSFER CASE!

There is a diesel variant that got into the mix I think around 2011 or 2012...it too is a 2.4 but there's more info on youtube and wikipedia about the engines and performance numbers of the D5.

Why does it sound like a leaf blower? Open diffs, no low transfer case gear.

Still people take them out off-roading so they must be capable...with some limitations of course.

That's funny, my sound isn't working on my laptop so I didn't know.

Looking at the auctions, there sure are a lot fewer that have off road mods than with earlier models.

It sure seemed to stuggle with that obstacle! Is there no diesel option? And I don't think it has a solid rear axle. Sure like the styling though.

It struggles until they turn on the "SC" (stuck control). Not sure what this is, but it seems to deliver power to the wheels that have traction.

I feel a bit deflated after all this....

It doesn't bother me . . . for me a delica is road trip vehicle first. It let's me and my family get off the beaten path, and into some cool places in comfort. If I wanted serious offroad ability, I'd get a Jeep.

I had a L400 for a while and it left me . . . well, meh. I like the looks of the D5.

Remember when the L400's first started arriving - they weren't exactly universally accepted.

I like the D5 style. The fact the gasser engine is a very common 2.4 MiVEC does help in terms of parts availability in Canada. The Lancer Evo uses this engine so there are probably some EVO D5's tricks.

I have only used my low range when I went offroad with my local crew of Pajero and Toyota pals.....it left me stuck....but look at the flex!

The D5 doesn't disappoint me....probably be my next JDM purchase when 2017 rolls around.

First and foremost: I like these things a lot.

But: It's ultimately a short wheelbase outlander in a pill box hat. 5 passenger seating, transverse engine, etc.

Grab a cheapy outlander, bolt on the D5 lift kit, and enjoy it now while you wait for your D5 to be legal.

D:5 reminds me of a Ford Flex.

Hmm, wikipedia steered me wrong. They are longer than the Outlander. For some reason I thought they were quite a bit smaller than the L300 even.

Here's what's on the D5 website I posted a bit earlier: (My guess is Stuck Control = Traction Control)

Switchable drive modes:
Choose between 2WD mode which power’s the front wheels only, 4WD mode which supplies power to all four wheels through the limited slip differential and LOCK mode which locks the differential and supplies equal power to all four wheels, particularly useful in off-road low traction situations.


And if this 2007 factoid is true it certainly opesn the gates for engine modifications and such: "Current Generation of the D:5 Delica is built on an all new GS Platform that it shares with the Outlander, Lancer, Lancer Evolution X, and RSR (ASX in Australia). The major improvements over previous models have come in the development of the chassis which is now a Rib-bone frame Monocoque."
