Has anyone had issues with squeaky belts on their L400? Mine started squeaking when they got wet or cold back before December i.e. when the weather is cold or damp, typically on startup, but the squeaks will stop after a little while on the road, i.e. warmed up a little. They take a lot longer to do so now. I'm taking her in to CCA next Monday to finally have it looked at, (arranged a month ago, and this will be the first time I've been able to get away).
But I'd like to know...what can people tell me about the belts on the 2.8L Diesel? Easy to change? How easy are they to retension, and how is that done? Anything else I might be able to do to mitigate the squeakiness in the meantime? I'm a bit of a technical n00b, I gotta say...

There haven been a few persons who have had crank pulley issues. Get yours checked while at the shop.
The belts might be okay, it could be a bearing in the idler pulley which is one of the belt tension adjustments.
Water pumps also make this squeek noise at times.
Get the entire belt driven system checked.

Having the exact same problem, think its slipping at the alternator (I have the 4G64 2.4L Petrol).
Will squeal like a banshee sometimes and then not for a long time, cant quite figure it out. I think its at the alternator cause there is rubber powder collecting on the face of the alternator right by the pulley though the alternator is fine.
I have just been using belt treatment as a bandaid fix for the time being but seems to only do it when its cold or when the van is left outside in the rain.
Let us know what happens when you get it checked, Id be extremely interested in knowing what it was!

I did have it looked at earlier this week, and all that was required was a belt retensioning. At least for now. I'll give it a while, and see what it's like cranking it up in the wee hours of the morning.
