Leaking ip

Post by prairiefire »

Well I think my injection pump is finally giving up the ghost. It's dripping on the underside and also having a harder time starting in the morning. It's gotten worse with the cold weather we had last week. I notice a bit of air in the system after it sits. I'm able to prime fuel filter. I can't afford to fix at the moment. I was wondering if there is any short term fixes. I've read about Veggie oil, 2 stroke oil and even seal reconditioner being added to the fuel. Anybody have successfully stopping the leak for the short term. I'm at a quarter tank and was planning on adding 1L of 2 stroke oil and going for a cruise on the highway to see if it will swell the seal back up. Thanks in advance.

Ps. I think I'm gonna get almost 100kms less out of my last fill up.

Hey prairiefire,

I had this happen on my '93 L300. It was running fine but puking out fuel pretty good underneath. I don't think there's much you can do other than have it rebuilt to be honest. I live in Ontario and shipped mined to Steven at Rising Sun. It's been working great ever since. It's been the most costly repair I've had on my van since owning it but that's partly because I had my mechanic do a bunch of other maintenance things while he had the engine apart. Since then it's been trouble free. Best of luck with things.

I'm fearing that's what I need to do. Just did a lot of work on the money pit. New brakes (f&r), rotors(f), tie rod ends, shocks(f), u&l ball joints on drivers side and new winter tires. I'm a little tapped out on expenditures at the moment.

Any idea if the fuel leak will affect me passing aircare?

Thanks

Well I live in ontario and we don't have air care here. We do have Drive Clean which I'm sure is similar. I don't think it would matter but I would point it out to the tech either. You're not driving all that clean if you're leaking diesel out onto the road.

My van actually drove quite fine with the pump leaking pretty good. I just decided to fix it as it was getting all over my driveway and it wasn't getting any better... Never mind the cost of the fuel.

Anyway good luck with your van. I know how costly they can be.... I just posted a question regarding my rear axle and how I'm noticing it's getting a bit noisy upon highway speeds. Another member commented that his was doing the exact same thing and he had to eventually replace the entire axle..... I'm really hoping this is not the case. It's never a good time when you have to spend $$$$$.
