Hey Guys and Gals.
I just purchased a 98 l400 and I'm stumped as to what the A/T mode switch is for. I can't seem to find anything in the manual regarding it. Any help would be appreciated...Don't like not knowing something.
Thanks

Re: A/T mode
I'll try to explein with my basic english. A/T mode force your transmision to stay on an higher gear. Exemple whenyou make a stop and restart, your transmision stay on second gear instead the first gear. It can be usefull when it´s slipery, icy or snowy.

Re: A/T mode
On the pre 98 L400 The A/T switch has 3 positions. One is the HOLD function that has already been explained...quite well actually.
The second called the POWER function changes the shift points on the transmission so the engine RPM's are higher than the normal mode...good for hills, passing on highway, towing. The engine uses a bit more fuel in POWER mode so best to drive in normal mode most of the time.
The middle or off position is normal mode.
The 98's I have been i formed only have an on/off mode that forces the tranny to stay in its current gear when engaged.

Re: A/T mode
POWER is very useful when in hilly conditions. I don't know if I would use it when trying to haul up a mountain but in rolling hills it's great.

I use the a/t in the winter. Forces me to drive more relaxed lol. Save fuel.
