Does your L400 have either one of these? Do you use them?
I don't care about the air flap, but I would like an idle adjustment switch for cold mornings until the engine warms up. Can I simply find a switch and install it, or would my delica lack all the necessary components?
Have both, don't really use them. My L400 2nd Gen doesn't really need the choke. Albeit this winter hasn't really been that cold so I haven't had much use for it...
As for the air flap, no, not really... I don't really see much point in playing with it much as it doesn't make too much of a difference open or closed..
The vent control is usefull on really hot days when you want more air flowing through the cab area. Works best when the back side windows are open.
The throttle control is a cable controller that is directly connected to the accerator pedal linkage. Its a manual control that you pull out to set RPM's and turn 1/4 way to lock/unlock. Good for cold winter mornings when you want the RPM to hover around 1000. Its not a choke control which would be on a carb'd engine which the L400 doesn't typically have. They had the 2.4 EFI, the 3.0 EFI, the 2.5 TD and the 2.8 TD Intercooled.
There might be a way to install a switch to set the idle speed but that means translating the wiring schematic at the Mechanical Injector Pump on the Gen 1 L400 or the Electronic unit found on the Gen II.
Yeah I joined the Dark Side because the medical plan is top shelf!
Availability of these 2 controls seems to vary between the various trim levels. Some have a throllte control and no vent control (like mine).
Some have neither.
But if you start your deli and set the manual throttle you will know if its connected or not. The cable from the manual pull attaches to the top of the accelerator pedal. Easy to see from the floor area...not so easy to reach.

Yeah I can see where it is attached now. Too bad mine doesn't have one, I think it would be handy for cold mornings
The vent control is more simple than you think. It closes the intake and opens it. I can't honestly see a reason for it since you can choose to recirculate air from the other control. It literally shuts a flap.

So, it does exactly what a button on my dash already does then.
Yup. I see no point to it. It literally moves a flap down to block the intake of air behind the cabin filter intake. Here's a picture my finger is pointing to the mechanism that is activated
