paying a mechanic for fixing a problem he created???

Post by beenie »

Hey all,

Just posted this (http://www.delica.ca/forum/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=16550) in the L400 technical section, but I'm wondering... what's the rule here for reaching an agreement on cost of the repair. When you take a perfectly functioning vehicle into a mechanic and you get something that barely runs back, shouldn't that absolve you from paying for the followup repair?? With the mechanics hypothesis, the gasket blew because he had to prime it when the new filter was installed, so he probably won't feel very responsible for the hiccup and want to charge me.

Cheers,

Ben

If the issue has nothing to do with the work he did then no it is not his responsibility to fix it under warranty. However reading your other post... the reasoning does not make much sense... Sounds to me like there is still air in the system.

Well, thankfully it never came up. The mechanic admitted they had installed the filter improperly and fixed the issue for free.

Thanks for your input!

That's tres cool. Could be a good guy to keep in touch with. "My bad, I'll fix it". You don't see that all the time. Good to know there are still some human beings out there! I'd buy him a drink.
