L300 Delica spare tyre carrier

Post by Growlerbearnz »

I wanted an external tyre carrier to free up space for a long-range fuel tank, but wanted it to look OEM. A short trip to the wreckers, and I found a bunch of Mitsubishi RVR Sports Gears (AKA Mitsubishi Expo LRV, Dodge/Plymouth Colt Wagon, Eagle Summit Wagon).

Much cutting and welding ensued. The L300's flimsy step was much improved when combined with the RVR's sturdy bumper iron, but the plastic bumper skin required a bit of modification to make it fit. Yay for plastic welding! The number plate and its illumination had to be moved too.

Holy wick that's awesome!! You've got some mad skills there. It totally looks like an option from that cool catalogue of accessories posted on here.

A while back I installed one of those E & H hitches..??. Can't recall the name, but anyway, the hitch is awesome, but I couldn't manage to get the spare back up in there afterwards. I work for my local school board and had the hitch installed in my buddy's shop class. He suggested mounting the spare as you have, but I was opposed to the idea thinking it wouldn't look right.

Unless of course, it was done like yours...... Let me know when you open up your Delica accessory shop and I'll be your first customer 8-)

Growlerbearnz, are you willing to part with your stock spare tyre holder if you're not using it anymore?

It's currently in the scrap metal pile in the workshop, it's not particularly heavy but it's a bulky item- shipping costs from New Zealand to Canadia would likely be outrageous!
