Best place to install the boost gauge line?

Best place to install the boost gauge line?

Looking at the intake manifold for a possible outlet for my boost gauge, can't see a good stock location. The EGR system works on mine so that location via blanking plate is not an option. I could T into the the hose but that isn't a clean option IMHO.

What have others done?
Yeah I joined the Dark Side because the medical plan is top shelf!

Mine is T'd off the hose that runs to the IP.

The EGR blanking plate is a good spot to mount a pyrometer probe for an EGT gauge not a good spot for anything related to a boost gauge. 8-)

T'ing or Y'ing off the boost line anywhere between the turbo and the boost compensator is the way to go. Just route and secure the lines nicely and it will look nice and clean.

Picked up some brass fittings today to put a T connection on the line that runs to the IP. The Boost gauge uses a 1/8" line and came with brass ferules and such. Should have everything in by Sunday afternoon.

Volt meter, pyro and boost.......pics will follow of course, thanks for the tips!

I will be doing the same install soon with boost and EGT gauges. I just need to find a brass T and commit to drilling a hole in my firewall :shock:

you don't have to drill a new hole in the firewall for either system...unless you really want to that is.

Use the existing wire loom penetration....its already has the rubber grommet and you can easily push the EGT wires into that. Its what I did. Can post a pic later tonight.

Seems I was confused with something else; I read a different thread and assumed that everyone also drilled a hole. I will use the existing grommet, like you say. Thanks!

Where do I find a 1/8" brass T? I just looked at Home Depot and a few others and they didn't have anything that small. Would I need to go to a plumbing specific store or what uses small brass components like this?

Have you got a Princess-Auto near you? Thats where I got my brass parts from. A plumbing supply store would be a good second option.

When you cut into the signal pressure hose (between the Turbo and the Fuel Pump) don't trim it too much or the hose will be too short.

Sucks having to get a replacement length of hose when your only ride is down because of a $5 chunk of hose!

Thanks, Princess auto is a bit far but there are lots of plumbing stores around me. I just need a T and hose clamps, right? And i guess a small piece of pipe to go from the T to the sensors male end.

My plan was to make one cut in the hose, slip one end of the T in place, and then cut only enough of the other end of the hose so I can slip it on the T and the line be in a straight like stock.

Trying this tonight or tomorrow! Excited to finally get it installed

Your Turbo Pressure gauge should have come with a coil of small diameter plastic tubing. Most tubing requires a brass ferrule connection.

Here's what I used and now that I think about it I got my brass from RONA's plumbing section.

1 Brass Tee Block

I ordered this from Auber instruments: http://www.auberins.com/index.php?main_ ... cts_id=122
It has a 1/4" barb on the MAP sensor.

I read on other websites I can use a short piece of vacuum hose to connect this to the Tee. Couldn't I just use a 1/4" male barbed connector on the Tee block? Or what's the purpose of using the ferrule connector over a barbed fitting w/ spring hose clamp?

Didn't realize you were using a digital reader. analog gauges use plastic tubing to transfer actual pressure to the gauge.

ferrules are used to secure tubing (plastic, metal)
barbed ends are for hoses.

There is my confusion, I thought the hose and tube were the same thing, I didn't realize the tubing was rigid. doh! :?

What size of spring clamp is used for the 1/8" turbo line? When I got my supplies from RONA I was stumped when it came to the spring clamps because I have never bought new ones before (and only used the screw kind in other applications). The spring clamps I saw quoted the OD of the pipe, but I don't have calipers to measure the OD of the turbo line.
