Delica RV importing

Post by johnarlene »

We purchased our 1997 Delica van ourselves ( help with Derek Weldon). We managed to ship and Canadianize the van easily. (help with Amazing Auto). We managed to land this van very afforably and it is the best vehicle we have ever owned. We are a older retired couple who hike, camp and even still do Burning Man. We have out grown this van and are now looking into a Delica RV. We have noticed they rarely come available through auction.. Has anyone any experience with importing these small RV's? If so, who and how? There are some companies who advertize these RV's but they seem to want a very high top dollar price. Getting older does change how you travel. The JB 500 mitsubishi would be the type to import. We are not sure if this is where to ask such questions so maybe some direction would help as well.
Thanks

Here's a good place to start looking at what's available.

This one is a favorite of mine and probably one of the best appointed I have ever seen.

If you start travelling across Canada and the US you might want to consider something in the Toyota Hi-Ace family as their gas/diesel engines and suspensions have more in common with many other Toyota truck/vans sold across North America.

Sorry to the Mitsu lovers but this is too true. The farther east you go the harder it is to get parts, service, techs who know what the heck they are looking at when you pull up in a RHD JDM anything!
Yeah I joined the Dark Side because the medical plan is top shelf!

Thanks for the info. Yes we do know ts imports and have looked at many models. You are correct with toyota truck parts being available and I think that would hold true with Isusu truck parts as well. What we want and what is really available are two different things. I dream of a real life 25 to 30 mpg with a compact toilet/shower combo. Nothing in North America even comes close to our wants. We will keep looking for something that with some modifications (engine ,weight etc) will work for us. When we find the dream we will pass on how we did it. The delica euro van model you commented on is the closest we come to accepting.

I've learnt to keep a goal in site and make it happen.
