reviving used L400 flares

Post by Big-Bird »

Fender Flares are hard to find for many Delica owners but if you look long enough you might get lucky. This set was in fair condition and after a 2 year search decided the damage was minor enough that repairs could be performed.

one had a crack so bad from a rear ender accident (the original Deli) it nearly split in 2. The others had stone chips and a few torn mounting holes. A bit of fiberglass work and lots of sanding the set has been given new life. All they need now is the final color dose as the rubber coating won't clean up once it get covered in road grime.

After primer and rubber rock guard the flares are looking rugged.

Sanding smooth with the Palm sander was about 2 hours. Incl primer and wet sand.

fiberglass repairs 15 minutes (done with the sanding process)

rubberized rock guard 20mins for each coat but the final color.....not done yet....trying to find replacement gasket body seal and may have found a match from Bushwacker. Need to try it first. then I will pain the satin black, glue the rubber seal and mount to the van.

Also found out it need aftermarket mud flaps....factory ones are not compatible.... Booo!
