Climate Control Question...

Mitsubishi Delica L400 production commenced in 1994 -- After much anticipation, the L400 arrived on Canadian Soil in 2009!

Climate Control Question...

The climate controls on my L400...

...don't seem to control the climate very well. Specifically, the fan setting seems to change of its own free will. More specifically, when it's on full, it usually is more like someone exhaling constantly than an actual fan. Every once in a while, it kicks in full power, but only for a while, and then changes its mind again. It's almost as if changing the fan setting changes the maximum that the fan can go to, but doesn't necessarily set to the fan to that speed.

Thoughts? Ideas? Would I benefit from switching to these bad boys?

Have you checked that the "Auto" is not engaged? This may explain why the CCU seems to have a mind of it's own.

I've never really used this feature in any of my vehicles, I like to be in control of my heat/cold.

Yeah, I much prefer to set the controls myself, so I keep 'Auto' off. Not a bad idea to check, though. Maybe it comes on automatically unless you specifically disengage it?

Does anyone know how big of an issue it would be to switch form one set of controls to the other? The 'convenience' of the digital setup doesn't seem to be worth it, at least in this case.

My buddys L400 has the same as your controls and he's always complaining about them, My S2 has controls like you posted and they're great. However, I don't believe it's a straight across swap, your vehicle will have more servos I'd imagine

sorry to thread jack, but if anyone has an extra rear HVAC unit and controls I'll take them off your hands.

Thanks! At least it's not just me...

Sorry to re-jack my thread, but has anyone attempted such a switch? Or, at least, do any of the more electrically-minded folk out there have an idea of what I would be in for? I'm of the mindset that most things are pretty figure-outable, but I don't want to start dismantling and realize that that theory is garbage.

Like I said, I highly doubt its a straight across swap. Just by comparing the two controls, the temp mixing valve with be servo controlled, so you'll need that servo, and whatever associated ECU it requires.
It will also most likely require most of the dash coming apart.
And when it comes to taking apart the dash, aside from the middle console being relatively easy, for the rest, it almost all has to come out from side to side.

So... deal with it is the best option? I can live with that. Thanks, Krazyist.

I remember on one of the forums I browse a member making his own micro controller for his climate control, It may have been in a Landcruiser.

so anything is possible if you can source the parts or are resourceful enough to make your own.

But is it worth it is the question?

Man, I'd love to be able to make my own. That would be slick. Curse you, incompetence!!

Update:

I replaced my blower motor - no more issues with intermittent blowing!! I guess it wasn't the controls after all.
