Hi!
Winter's on its way, even here in Germany.
I was wondering, what kind of emergency must haves you all are driving around during - real- winter?
A long shovel, water and a tow strap might be good ideas, as well AS something to keep you warm...
I'm looking forward to reading about your ideas!
cheers, Will

Re: Emergency kit for winter?
Depends where you are going as to what you need. for myself I go into the back woods a lot to camp/ride/hike/climb etc
I carry (in no particular order)
1st aid kit
SPOT GPS tracker
Basic tool kit (sockets, screw drivers, plyer set)
Jumper cables
Para-cord
Flash light
Gorilla Tape
Flare
Reflective blanket
"Help" sign
Shovel
Lighter
Matches
Compass
Magnifying glass
Hunting Knife
Sierra Saw
Whistle
Hatchet
Water
Zip ties
Bungee cords
Ratchet straps
Mirror
Candles
gloves
Fix-a-flat (soon to be replaced w/ a plug kit and on-board air)
All of it is small and collapsible. The majority of the item fit into a bag that fits nicely beside the bed platform in the back.
Additional items depending the trip
come a long
4x6 plank X2
CB radio
Chain saw
Spare vehicle parts

Re: Emergency kit for winter?
That's a good start; some of the items I didn't even think about in the first place...
I won't be heading out to the back country it's more about being prepared for a break down, heavy snowfall or something else unpredictable...
Fire, water, food and shelter - I'm not quite sure about the shelter part... would it be better to stay in the car/van without heating or does it make sense to build a fire outside and set up a tarp?
I've slept in the van when we had -12°C outside but it wasn't the most cosy night I've had...
I've crossed the australian outback a few times and know how to prepare for heat and dry climate but I've never had to prepare for the cold....
