sunroof -- stuck open!

sunroof -- stuck open!

Post by Mitsuballistic »

Hey all,

Is there an easy repair for an L400 sunroof that is lodged open? Or at least a way to close it for the winter? It appears that there is a problem with the track, as the sunroof is not only wedged open but also slightly crooked (so that it won't seamlessly go back into place).

Any ideas what I can do? From what I understand this isn't something the Delica mechanics will handle. Has anyone had success bringing this into a generic body shop?

Thanks so much,

Derek

try pulling it slightly while pushing the button and see if you can manual align it as it closes. Failing this, you will find a hex head socket under the forward interior light which you can use an allen key to manually close it. You may need to break off the round cover to access it. The cover will appear to be a circular cover held by two small tabs. Hope this helps a bit.-Rick

I started getting this problem when I opened my sunroof at highway speed. If you haven't done that before: DON'T. Wait until you stop.

Take a look in the toolbag with the tire tools. That's where I found the stock hex wrench. Remove the lens for the front dome light and look for a hole in the plastic to fit the wrench through. Wrench the sunroof closed with someone aiding the glass into position. Since the glass is crooked, you will need to force the wrench to jump a cog or 2 as you get the glass "home"

Rick and John: Awesome advice, both of you. Thanks so much for taking the time to help.

I'll let you know how this project goes after the weekend. The sooner I can keep the interior of my Delica protected from the rain, the better!

Thanks for all of the help to date.

I did not find that sunroof tool in my kit, but I did find an allen key that fits all the same. However, the sunroof does not want to budge at all.

As you can see from the photo, it is almost there, but does not want to close down. I have pushed and prodded, but it stubbornly refuses to sink back into the roof. I am really frustrated, as my mechanic told me he doesn't do sunroofs.

This is one of those times when owning a Deli becomes a hugely disappointing experience.

Shops to speak with to fix your roof in case you didn't know
CVI : Richmond
Rising Sun : New Westminster
Amazing Auto : Richmond
Commbs Country Auto: Vic-Island BC

Mechanical advise isn't always free, they can probably fix if you do the appointment....the power roof can be a PITA.

this link might be helpful too bit the pics have expired.

CVI is where I've been maintaining my Deli for the past few years. However, they don't do sunroofs, as I tried to make an appointment for exactly this on my last trip into Vancouver. They recommended a body shop instead.

Perhaps I should give Rising Sun or Commbs a try…

Thanks for all of the advice.
