Pony power maybe....only 85 hp on the stock 2.5 turbo-d.

They are tourquee for an 85hp engine. These are by no means rockets...maybe if they were pointed down as driving over a cliff thing would have some good punch.

I would say the engine is quite adequate for the highway, given the vehicle size and such. Now that my turbo is set to the correct 12psi boost I find it very easy to get up to 140km/h rather quickly, a little more if I step on it, but the wind noise is a bit much at high speeds. Handling is fine though, much better than other vans I've driven and better even then some new economy cars, I find cheap cars tend to get sketchy around 140km/h, steering gets loose and "floaty", not the case with the delica.

Comfortable/economical cruising speed is more like 110-120km/h or a bit lower. Remember you are basically driving a square box.

ive driven boxes before. i have been reading about adjusting the boost as well. is it really difficult to do or no? would an after market diesel shop be able to do some tuning on it? in calgary we have a shop i just dont recall the name right now. would a bully dog systme work or perphaps propane? bigger exhaust and a free running intake i am sure would be best? intercooler? even an air to air system would help right? i ask this because i want to use it as more of an get out of town car rather then in the city. well maybe to the grocery store.

Any mechanic familiar with turbo can do it. You might need to let him know where the adjuster is but it should be straightforward. My local mechanic happens to know diesel, turbochargers, imports, and delicas really well so it was very easy.

All sorts of things can be done to improve the power output, just keep in mind that as you're doing that you're decreasing the engine's life expectancy, and to avoid cracking the head, first thing you should have installed is an exhaust gas temperature meter if you plan on tuning.

neewb question? pyrometer does what? i know it reads the exhaust gas temps, but does it connect to a turbo manamengt system or is it a stand alone unit? i ask because this would would be used to throttle back the fuel in cases the temps go to high. am i correct? as to tunning, i dont want to make it a monster just up the power somewhat. like i have read most ppl are running boost at around 12psi, i just figured an intercooler system would help reduce the strain on the temps. nothing crazy just a small intercooler like on a subaru.

on a side note some one sent me an email, i think it was a moderator for a web site based out of banff, wow those are nice vans on thats site, i have contacted them waiting for a call back. i dont remeber the name of the person who sent it to me, but thatnk you, has anyone had dealings with them? mountain parameters?

It connects the EGT to the turbo and fuel delivery, via eyeballs, brain and right foot. In other words, watch the gauge, and if it gets too high, take foot off gas pedal (diesel pedal?)
