Hey folks!
Has anyone here has had their radiator replaced on their L300 4D56?
Mine was cracked and i've sealed it twice already but these are usually quick fixes! I used JB weld and Rad tanks leak fix! I now need a new rad! Let me know thanks!

It kind of depends what you currently have in there. The original brass radiators can be rebuilt easily enough, but plastic-tanked aftermarket radiators are more disposable. They're a lot cheaper though...
I recently had mine re-cored, since the correct thickness radiator was impossible to find. On my Delica (4D56T, Auto, Exceed) the radiator core is 49mm thick- most L300 radiators are 32mm. The 32mm one is identical apart from core thickness, so it would fit, but since I tow a lot I wanted as much radiator as possible.
One issue that came up while having it re-cored was that the tanks needed to be reinforced, as the old brass was fatigued. A decent, old-school radiator shop will know what to look for, but a newer shop might not.

Nothing says "poor workmanship" more than wrinkles in the duct tape.

JDM in Vancouver sell new ones for $450... I've seen a few rebuild ones that were all Aluminum. But unsure of the expansion specs on them! Hopefully someone has had theirs replaced here in Canada!

New Radiator or Rebuilt?
The hose pipes on my radiator are pretty badly rusted, was advised by a mechanic to recore/replace the rad. "cooling system rusts from inside out" so he was suggesting the integrity of the rad is questionable. I'm not really having cooling issues, but planning my course of action. I mean I had to stop and idle the engine for 10 minutes half-way up the Coquihalla (massive gradual hill into interior BC) because I was reaching above half on the heat gauge so I figured precaution was in order ...
I know coombs/RMI have the plastic/alum ones for a fair price, but if my radiator is 49mm I think it's probably worth a re-core. I'm assuming a radiator shop would also be able to add new pipes as neccessary ... lots of smoke & mirrors about the superiority of brass vs. aluminum, but my takeaway is that brass = aluminum in cooling potential, but thicker rad = better rad.
Any suggestions on measuring rad thickness? It certainly looks like a thicker rad, but I guess top of rad is only going to be a few milimeters more than c core thickness?

I have had a couple old rads rebuilt and a good shop should be able to add more cooling tubes then stock. The shop called it a heavy duty rad with 25% more tubes. Definitely something to look into. The cleaning process also gets rid of the 10 pounds of gunk in the rad as well! Ralph in Winnipeg
