Hey guys,
I want to install a boost gauge in the stock dash mounted gauge pod that houses the inclinometer, and altimeter. I can't seem to be able to find any threads on this topic with the search function. I'm sure it is on here somewhere, but I cannot find it since the switch over to the new forum. I recently got a stock three gauge pod from a slightly newer L300, and installe dit on my 89 in place of the stock two gauge pod. My van isn't wired for the inside/outside thermometer, so I was hoping to just remove it, and install a boost gauge instead. Could anyone point me towards a good gauge to buy, and install here? Also do I want a gauge that is 0-say 25/20 psi for boost rather than a 0-60? I ask because I assume these vans don't run very high boost levels, so why have a gauge that will barely move? Has anyone installed a boost gauge in the dash pod? If so could you link me to a thread that shows how to do this?

Yeah, get the smaller-scale boost gauge. I think the norm is about 9 psi, but some folk have tinkered with theirs to get it up to 14 or so. You're right, with a gauge that goes to 60, about 75% of it is useless.

Just get a Madman Gauge, I've got one that displays:
Boost
Coolant Temp
Engine Temp
EGT
Battery V
Incline/N-to-S
Service hours
etc...
and it is mounted inside that middle console as well!

Not sure how the term "pod" came to be used for this application, I suspect it's slang and comes from peas in a pod. Try using the term "binnacle" in your search, see if that helps.

Any pictures of the Madman gauge mounted in your centre binnacle? Which one did you get the EMS2? Do you know if the gauge can display in Farenheit as well as Celcius?

Yeah, I am doing this tomorrow on mine.
Standard gauge size is 2 and 1/16th so about a 1/4 inch smaller than the ones in the pod. I'm going to get some plastic and cut a bezel to size. I'll maybe make a post about this after.
