Floats like a boat?

For the sake of comparison I wanted to see how you all would describe the damping rate of your L300.
Mine seems quite soft over bumps, kinda floats on as though the shocks are worn out. I became concerned after driving to Canmore in a high wind which found the Van feeling quite unstable as it was being blown around.

Just wanted to see if this is a normal condition or if I'd best order some new shocks.

The L300 body style, being a mid engine configuration is going to float like a boat. Which is also why it is so stable on angles. I use Rancho RS9000 adjustable shock absorbers. This allows me to adjust my shocks to the application at hand, such as towing a trailer or in off road applications. In any case, she's still going to rock like a boat, it's the nature of the machine.

Falco, I did checked for the adjustable Rancho: can you provide us with the right number to chose for an unlifted (or one rear leaf added at back like your Van) Delica L300. Would need Rancho number for the front to ?

I found you need to pull the shocks and compare the whole set. Sometimes one shock can fail and affect the whole delicas stability.

Nitrogen filled shocks are what the industry is trending to , oil filled shock seem to live a longer life but are not as available.

Delicas narrow build seems to have greater body roll associated with quick steering movements however the heavy anti sway bars counter the corner lean well. Mitsu engineers must tear their hair out with the Delica suspension/steering and 4X4 requirements.

My Delica's handling has been described as "like driving a bouncy castle", but if I follow it on the road it doesn't seem all that bad. I think the impression comes from the driving position- you're up quite high in relation to the roll centre, and being in front of the steering wheels always feels odd.
It's fairly stable in the wind, more so than my Daihatsu Terios, but I think that comes down to the weight difference.

I had Monroe shocks fitted for a while, and they were nice and solid on the road but waaaay too harsh offroad. The Ranchos I have in there now are a wee bit floatier on the road, but lovely in the rough stuff. Non-adjustable though, because I'm cheap. For reference, I have Explorer Pro Comp 913515 and 919520 ES9000 shock absorbers. 2" suspension lift blocks in the front, 2" lift in the rear courtesy of removing all the seats.

my van is quite stable though wind will still blow it around a bit. I am runnjng KYB agx on all corners.

Thanks for sharing guy, but like any other non Mitsubishi stock parts, if we do not provide parts numbers, only give the brands is about useless...

Right. I found them. I posted the numbers previously in May, 2013. They are as follows: RS9000XL(RS999188); RS9000XL(RS999151). One thing about my install, The rear axle stock shocks are pin adaptors, the RS 9000s that I use are loop adaptors so I had the pin mounts ground off and loop mounts welded on.
