I just finished my roof rack for my delica ( as shown in delica modification sub forum) and now I want to stay on the ladder. I have a ladder on my lift gate but hate it and it's coming off as I'm selling it. I want to design some type of quick clap set up for the ladder so I can move it to where every I need it. I need to know if those gutters are strong enough for this. I weigh about 180lbs. Is this too much weight for those to hold? I know they are strong if your pushing down but what about from the side?
Thanks
Travis

Good news for you ! Look at what owners have been mounting on these L300!!! Double thuly, massive cargo box am filled with whatever will fit! A buddy of mine did made up a quick one for the side which worked great! Th problem was to store that freeking thing! At least at the back its secured and out of the way!

That's awesome. Ya, I'm going to try and design it so it will still carry on the lift gate. With the new rack design and carrier we will Def need a ladder that can move around.

I've got Thule racks and often carry a Yakima cargo box plus 3 to 4 kayaks with stuff loaded into them. I'd say I'd easily have 400 pounds + on the roof. Along with that I have one of those fold up ladders that legs rest on the ground while the top hooks on the rain gutter. I'm 180ish plus the load already on the roof. Only one time when I hit a big pothole did the rain gutter deform a slight bit where the feet of the racks sat.

400lbs spread over 4 feet is still only 100lbs per corner spread far apart. using a hanging side ladder would put put 180LBS + the ladder + plus ever you are carrying to the roof on one spot of the gutter.. that is quite high imho. Be careful.
