Is it the end of the L300 in Canada :(
Is it the end of the L300 in Canada or should I say the beginning of the end of the L300 in Canada :(
Although being an L300 owner, I sometime look in car selling websites in case I maybe tempted grabbing another one, say for winter uses (mine is sleeping in winter... :) So since recently, we can see that a lot, not to say allmost all 25YO and older L300 are being shipped to US....With this "new" market, the price of the Van seems to have gone up accordingly Is there still as much L300 landing in Canada now than before US customer can import these Vans from Canada ? Is there so many Delica to import from Japan that it can fullfill both markets ?
Just a tought

I suppose if you are looking to sell it is good.
There are lots out there to be had, but they are also getting older. This is also why a lot of Canadians have moved to L400s, just like the UK and OZ did fairly early on as they have less restrictive import laws.
And anyways, more people getting neat vans isn't a bad thing.

The thing is the is no comparison possible between the two: is is clear for about everyone that this was a strange move to give them both the same name....So, for me, 2 cars for 2 different taste. As for now, if you would give me an L400 I would not wont it (no offence here) and when I saw an L300 I knew that is what I wanted If you look at the price between the 2, it seem to be about the same, I guess the reason "maybe" that the are more searched for...at least in part

The Delica has been around since 1968, it has changed a lot over time. I would not call it the end, after all, the D5 is up and coming. You can get lots of different types, choice is good, having more of them on the road in North America is good for everyone.

That is what I was wondering if total L300 now landing in North America is more since the apparently growing interest about L300 in US or if these Vans would have been sold in the Canadian market...Only Cars Dealers can probably tell about it....

Loved mine since the first day I bought it! And I'm planning on keeping it till I the day I can't drive no more!
Too bad that they are, fazing out! The imports are more intwined to sell the new look L400... More and more that's what I see on the road. Either way, I do all the work on mine and let me tell you, I rarely read the L300 tech problems the people post... they give me nightmare!!!
Regardless, great post can be read here.

There are still Starwagons around. There are still people in Japan who are prepared to pay for the extra insurance to keep their beloved Delica. These machines have a conscience and some people pick up on that. It's all a part of the Unified Field thing. Perhaps there is a draw coming from south of forty-nine but I don't think it will take off like it did here. Maybe I'm wrong or correct, we'll see. I'm keeping mine, as well, Chuck. There are a lot of Delicas in the world so I would wager that the parts keep coming for a while.

Just bought an L300 from Japan, decently priced, owner wanted to get rid of it before they had to pay higher tax for it. Have a feeling this thing is hard to kill!

Re: Is it the end of the L300 in Canada :(
I will say that it is a good time to sell if you are looking to get a new vehicle. ICBC game me or 10k for my Van after it was hit while parked. I had recently done $3500 of work to get it running perfect but I am not bitter, just sad I dont have a Delica anymore. I bought the Van at auction in Japan for 1200 USD, shipped it over and did 2k repairs and setup. I then put 200K on the Van, I will miss it but not the pain it was when it broke down. Main hassle I had was with the lights, signal unit. Cheers and enjoy your rides, you never know when they will be taken from you!

Re: Is it the end of the L300 in Canada :(
looks like I picked the right time to sell my van.
maybe I should consider putting it on the American market.
while I love my van a lot, I think it might time to move on.

Re: Is it the end of the L300 in Canada :(
Right now I'm in a Starbucks in Richmond, waiting for the shop to refit my alternator. I have a leaky axle seal that needs to be sorted out. Many people I know, the ones that said that these things should not be in North America in the first place and that I should be more patriotic and buy a Ford, are telling me that this is a tell tail sign that I should move on and get something more sensible, like a Windstar or something. I have to ask why? They all have issues. Of all the vehicles I have owned, this one has been the most faithful, this one has taken me to places that one usually only see bikes and ATVs. This one has one computer (if you can call it that) that can be overridden and when something breaks on her there is often a contingency system in place.
Why on Earth would I want to replace her with some NAPOS?
If I break down in the toolies, I stand a much better chance of fixing the problem with hand tools than say in an H3. I can fit a stack of plywood in the cabin ~ that is totally AWESOME!!!
I think if you look at these wagons as a car ~ then you are more likely going to think about trading her up for a newer model and so be it, we all have our point of view. Myself ~ I consider these as a ship, things wear out and they get replaced. My alternator has lasted twenty-three and a half years. I suspect that once rebuilt it'll last another twenty years.
Not long ago I replaced some neo-wedge light bulbs in my instrument cluster. When I told one of the peanut gallery that I was doing this they were all ~ oh, you should just get a new car. So I asked him if he ever had a light burn out in his house and he said ~ of course ~ then I asked him if he sold the house and bought a new one with working lights? He replied of course not, who would think of such a thing! I asked what did he do? He said he changed the light bulb. I replied that that was what I was doing with my wagon and you know? He just didn't get it. Life occurs, I suppose.

In my opinion, the L300 will climb in values (those in great shape) as the years goes by. Seen it before... My plan on keeping my Deli for 50 more years will pay off when it will be time to sell! Or else be incarcerated into my casket when I die!!!
