L300 front LHS and RHS oil cooling rads!
Hey! I'm having miss conceptions that some people move these side oil cooling rads else where on the vans... Have anyone done that to theirs?

The rad behind the front right skid is for cooling the ATF, the rad behind the front left skid is for the main A/C. What people have done in the past if they've decided they didn't like the skids is angle them up, hinging on the front end and lifting from the rear. Myself, I like the skids, they have been very useful in the past for mounting a ledge so I've never attempted the job. That's about all the advice I can send out on this topic.

I believe the issue with the front steps/skids is that when you hit them on the ground, they can bend in and damage the radiators behind them.
I dont have those skids on mine, but I've raised the ATF cooler on the right. The Aircon condenser on the left is a bit trickier to raise: the pipes are solid and not very flexible, and the cooling fan is quite large. I just try not to hit any rocks with that side. So far, so good.

I was speaking with Josh about that. He related to me that a friend of his had experienced his skids bending under weight. I've not had that happen to me, perhaps it's down to angle of approach? Apart from using them to guide my tyres onto steps, one time I landed hard on a rock in a rather large cross ditch, the whole wagon felt it and took a small bite through the chrome and into the metal. I'm certainly glad I had them that day. I think if I hadn't had them I would have at least bent the armour/scoops on the ATF radiator. Perhaps they are more like bumpers but they have been of use to me.Growlerbearnz wrote:I believe the issue with the front steps/skids is that when you hit them on the ground, they can bend in and damage the radiators behind them. ....

Five: Front right is the ATF cooler; front left is main A/C; Under the Bambi bar shroud is the oil cooler; the main engine radiator is right in front of the motor and in front of that is the cabin A/C.

Re: L300 front LHS and RHS oil cooling rads!
I used to think the ATF radiator ran to the oil filter too- the ATF and oil tubes are the same size and run alongside each other, but they actually cross over behind the upper splash guard. I promise you, that little radiator on the right is an ATF cooler.
Vaguely unrelated, but fun* fact: the right end of the power steering rack has a loop of steel tube, which is actually a power steering fluid cooler. It doesn't have any fins (presumably it doesn't need them) but if you google image search "mitsubishi steering fluid cooler" you'll find lots of examples. So that means an L300 Delica has 6 fluid coolers as standard!

Wow. I did not know that. I've got partsbase open, is that the P/S Oil Return Tube (PNC# 48861)? Looks a bit like a coil from a still? Man these wagons are just so cool, cheers!

Yup, that's the one. It's visible inside the air intake as well.
