What's behind the alternator?

Does your Mitsubishi L300 make a strange noise? Need wheel alignment specs?

What's behind the alternator?

I've been questioning what is directly behind my alternator?? Wondering what it really is! Anyone knows?

The black thing attached to the back of the alternator, with the pipe that goes into the engine sump? That's your vacuum pump, makes vacuum to drive the brake booster and various vacuum motors (like the EGT actuator and the AC idle speed increaserer.)
Nothing says "poor workmanship" more than wrinkles in the duct tape.

Many years of pulling things apart to see how they work. Sometimes even putting them back together again!
