Westfalia Bed in Delica?

Post by team_ream »

Has anyone ever seen a VW Z bed installed in a Delica? I saw someone use one in a Toyota Van with good results, so don't see why it wouldn't work, but would love to know if anyone has experience with this. I have a line to purchase a 3/4 width one that would fit my l300 pretty good.
Thanks!

Seen a Westfalia bed quite some years ago fit into a L300 Delica, it did require trimming on the cabinet side I was told, but the final product looked pretty sweet.

Wouldn't the 3/4 width be a little to narrow? The difference isn't that great so you'd have to measure to be sure. Plus you should share pictures of the completed install on the forum here.

Cheers!

I have an old Westy bed in the back of my L300 right now. it came out of a late 70's Westfalia. I (well, my retired shop teacher buddy) did have to do some modifying to the set up to make it work. Basically its the bed with the storage cabinet underneath and then behind all that he made cabinets that are accessible when the rear hatch is opened. The top of these rear cabinets have the cushion on top of them making it a full length bed when its extended. One side of the rear cabinet is for storage, and the other side houses a pull out sink. He used recycled cherry wood from an old desk he had lying around in his garage.

It works fairly well, but there are some set backs. Firstly, the bed isn't very wide. It would be very difficult to put 2 people on it. Secondly, there isn't much room in these vans to do modifications like this. A pop top would make things much more comfortable. I've owned several Westfalia's over the years and this is not one of them. I love my van, but am considering getting a second dedicated camper for all the comfort that this set up lacks.

It's been a while, but the last time I tried to post pics on here, I couldn't figure it out. Perhaps I'll have another go at this when I have some time so you can see it for yourself.

Cheers, Phil
