K and N air filter

I have now removed the original Can Assy and have installed a K and N Filter in its place directly attatched to the intake pipe.I do notice some power gain at the cost of a little more noise..not really a cool sound either....I will post some Pics later.A majority of the noise seems to be coming from under the deli.I was thinking if I was to close off the compartment maybe with a louver or two for air it would reduce the noise substantially.Any thoughts out there to this idea?

I just bought my first L300, I live in New Mexico, USA. It's a bit hot and/or high altitude here (6,000-10,000 FT/ 2-3,000m MSL). Do you have any updates with the air filter upgrade? I would like to do mine first and see what improvements I can gain immediately in power as a result. Cheers.

Sorry, I hate it when someone asks a simple question and everyone replies with "why are you doing that" rather than just answering the question, but I'm doing it anyway.

Dirt in the intake air wears a diesel engine faster than a gasoline engine- all that nice sticky fuel oil holds dirt better than gasoline, and the high compression puts more pressure on the rings. K&N's have higher potential airflow than the factory filter, but don't remove dirt as well. And higher potential flow doesn't do anything unless you're actually using it- the factory filter is plenty big enough for even a highly modified 4D56.
