Near Disaster

Post by Stewart »

A car caught fire close to mine in my apartments parkade. She just had it fixed for a recall problem. I for sure wouldn't recomend her mechanic, or North American cars in general (it was a Mercury). My car looks bad but the damage is surprisingly light, a few minor parts (mirrors?), a good cleaning and maybe some paint. I'll also get to see how ICBC handles this kind of thing. All in all it could have been a lot worse and I'm really glad it survived to Delidrive another day. In Japan it was smoked in, in Canada it was smoked on. No smoking from now on please, except cold starts

I almost looks like custom paint job with a sweet window tint. Glad to hear the damage was only superficial. Nice to see a fellow Five Star Alum :M

I think that you should paint your van two tone B&W from now on. Actually looks great!

That's an idea, flat black and white, it might start a fad. I could do without the stench though.

Thanks, in this case being so tall was definitely a disadvantage as my wifes Accord only needed a wash. The smoke and fire rose to the roof and travelled right over to my Deli. Short cars were fine except the ones right next to the burning Merc.

Ya, parkade and parking garage fires do some interesting things depending on height.

Glad to see it isn't worse. I would suggest having a close look at the rubber door seals and sunroof gasket (if you have a sunroof). Guess you'll need new wiper blades.

Seeing the photos makes me think of something silly -- lots of people paint flames along the sides of their vehicles, but no one paints smoke! You could start a trend!

I hope ICBC will pay you for the damage in full. I did not know it was fire next block to my place.

Definitely make sure your door and window seals are all good, possibly any wires in your ceiling may have melted their insulation and could short out as well. The roof racks you might want to take some polish too.. I'm sure that will buff right out

Hey I live quite close to you as well. Sounds like luckily your parkade was built well that it contained the fire and it didn't spread. Is it underneath your building?

It looks like I got really lucky because the door and window seals look fine (I'll give them a little vaseline), the headliner looks fine and everything electrical works fine. The roof racks are toast though, $500 Thules with custom padding.

The parkade is under my building and I can't tell you how relieved I am that the fire was contained. I could have been carless and homeless at the same time.

If I may add my 2 cents, never use Vasoline on any rubber or vinyl seals-the petroleum will break down the rubber composite over time...

I heard vaseline is the best product to use. What would be a better one you could recomend? Some kind of silicon lube maybe?
