??Newbe Questions??

Post by smellmysoxs »

Hey I've been poking around this site for the past few days just learning about these delicas. I do not own a delica but I am in the market for a new vehicle. I would like a van for work purposes and I really like the idea of an AWD diesel for camping and such. I live in the lower main land so finding one won't be a problem. I have a few questions....
-What sort of things should i look for when I buy a delica?
-Are there any major issues I should look out for? (eg. Toyota's 2.4L turbo overheating problem)
-parts availability and price?
-what are the different models and what options do they have?
-Automatic or manual pros cons?
-Any recommended places to buy besides craigslist and this site?
-any other tips or pointers when buying a delica

...these are part-time 4WD vehicles, not AWD.
smellmysoxs wrote:-parts availability and price?
...lowest I've seen advertised is 6500$ and highest was 13000$ (depends on model, initial condition of vehicle and what the importer is willing to 'fix' or 'modify')
smellmysoxs wrote:-what are the different models and what options do they have?
...there are so many to choose from but start with low/high roof, Crystal Lite roof and all the trim packages which come with those different models. If you can, get to a dealer who still has some on their lot and ask for a test drive, that will give you the best idea of the variety available in these machines. We picked a roofline and then the rest of what's inside was a surprise (a pleasant one, at that).
smellmysoxs wrote:-Automatic or manual pros cons?
...most are automatics (3 speed with an overdrive), but the manuals (5 speed) are available. Auto has a higher speed (110km/h vice 90-100km/h) and there is a difference in the 4WD gearing (can't remember which is lower than the other).
smellmysoxs wrote:-Any recommended places to buy besides craigslist and this site?
...there are many importers in the lower Mainland, just ask around. Buying from a private seller is possible, but make sure the necessary mods have been made to meet compliance (it is possible to import yourself, but you have to make the mods before insuring).

Check out the "Purchasing and Importing" section for more information.

Over 60 Delicas for sale from different vendors at:

http://www.buysell.com

Some dealers have quite a few on their lots right now, good for comparison. We're also have a little meet this Friday at 6:30pm (McDo parking lot corner Lougheed and Boundary). You could see/feel lots of different models and talk with actual owners, not dealers!

Good luck!

G'day

I put a deposit on a Super Exceed today, not sure if I have we'll have it by friday but if so we'll drop by the meet. Would be great to meet some fellow owners, we are here on 2 year working visas from Australia!

Cheers

Hey Stormboy, Welcome to this forum and congrats on your new ride!

If you can make it Friday that'd be great! We recently came back from 3 months holidays in Australia and already miss the accent! Would be great to hear "G'day mate"
