I am the proud new owner of a 1993 L300 Exceed Star Wagon Turbo Diesel. I noticed that my Crystal Lite Shades would not work (using either the front or back switches). I am hoping that it is a simple problem (a fuse or a relay). Could someone be kind enough to provide me with troubleshoot step or point me to the information on troubleshooting this problem? I would certainly check for power before starting to tear things apart. I've attached a group of drawings that may help but if not attach a fused 12V @ the open or closed switch and see what happens. It is very unlikely all would be failed. You should @ least hear a noise or blow the fuse.Are all your shades in the same position? https://www.socialtext.net/data/workspa ... wiring.pdf
If you're new to the scene, I'll fill you in on a few things. I bought my L300 a little over 5 years ago. While the Crystal Lite Roof option is cool, it comes with it's own set of problems. My shades used to all function properly, but now only intermittently. On a good day, I can get them all to open and close, but not so much on the other days.
One of the problems you'll eventually encounter, if not already is that the roofs on these vans rust from the inside out. This is because Mitsubishi never treated the inside of these roofs with a rust inhibitor. Condensation forms up inside the cavity between the headliner and the actual roof. There's a space in between these two things which is where all the mechanics are for the Crystal Lite Roof. Over time, things start to fail up there (and I'm guessing its because of all this condensation etc)
What you can do is remove the headliner and all of the other stuff that's up there, and treat the inside of the roof with some sort of rust inhibitor sealant. While doing this, you could also address the issues you're having with your power shades.
But before doing all of this, I would check the links provided by others on this site. And certainly check for power first!! I've looked at several detailed pics of people who have tackled this job, and that's why I've yet to address this issue myself. Personally, this is way beyond my mechanical ability:( At some point, if I can find someone here in Southern Ontario that capable, I'll have them do the fix. Until that time, I'm leaving well enough alone.

I think Phil is right that you'll most likely need to remove the roof. Likely the best place to check for power is @ the front switch as it should come out quite easily. If you have 12 V there when you try to open or close the blinds then they are likely getting power the the operating relays. Others can be much worse when you notice bubbles on the roof!
I have the bubbles on my roof. I have a friend I went to high school with who's a licensed mechanic and body guy. I asked him if there's any way of fixing the roof from the outside, but unfortunately there really isn't. When you see pictures of all the stuff that's up inside the headliner for the shades to work, it looks quite daunting. Like something off of the space shuttle.......
My hat goes off to anyone on here that's tackled this job successfully and got the shades to function after reassembly. And if this person happens to live in Southern Ontario and wants to fix mine, I have plenty of beers and cash too..... lol
I'm going to take it on in the late Spring/Early Summer when the days are long and the patience in longer. I'll at least do a power test now though. Thank you everyone for your help and support .
