Tapping fuel line for heater.

Does your Mitsubishi L300 make a strange noise? Need wheel alignment specs?

Tapping fuel line for heater.

Post by Mr.SA »

I’m tappig into the fuel line to install my Espar heater. But can’t figure it which line it is, I see multiple coming off the top of the tank.

Can anyone point out which one? There’s those two coming out of the metal plate, and the other in the 1st pic that goes through that green valve or filter? Then through the elbow in the 2nd pic.

And while I’m at it, should I add a 1 way valve to the line to the heater pump?

In the Technical Reference Library there's this post all about the fuel tanks and how they work: http://www.delica.ca/forum/viewtopic.php?f=91&t=17225

TL;DR:

Rear fuel tank:

You want to tap into "fuel to engine". Don't tap into the lines between the front and rear tank, you might mess up the syphon system which keeps the fuel level in both tanks.

I don't know that a one-way valve would do anything, but an inline shutoff valve, close to the fuel tanks, might be a good idea.

Is that for Autos only? Mines a manual, I think I only have one tank unless I’m blind.

Whoops! My mistake. Manuals do only have one tank, which makes it a lot easier.

There should be three pipes going into the metal plate and one directly into the tank (I think! Now I'm paranoid though...).
-fill vent (largest 15mm pipe) goes to filler neck
-fuel feed to engine fuel filter (usually the larger of the two small pipes, about 8-10mm?). This is the one you want to tap.
-fuel return from injection pump (6-8mm?)

The line going to the green filter and the y-piece is the expansion vent.

From underneath, you should be able to trace the fuel feed to engine line. Start at the fuel filter and work your way back.
