PST when insuring for the first time

Post by glenn »

This question probably has an obvious answer, but I have been unable to find it. If one was to buy a Delica here, that has already been imported, but it has not been complied or registered in Canada - is PST due when the vehicle is first registered and insured.

So for example, when someone advertises a vehicle as "delivered to canada and duties and taxes paid" what does this mean? Does PST get paid when the vehicle is imported and when it first get insured, or is it only paid once?

I'm hoping this is an easy question for anyone who has imported a van. Thanks
Glenn

PST is paid at registration and insuance after your inspection (in BC). Since PST varies from P to P, I would assume that this is not included in the price.

Some vendors/importers advertise "Landed cost". This is the case with Terra2 so when you pay them for your vehicle the PST is included in the price. Once you receive your vehicle they give you back the PST amount so you can pay it directly to the Autoplan (ICBC) which will charge you PST only on the value of the purchase vehicle found on the CBSA (customs) documents, (you don't pay PST on the shipping and broker's fees...)

This is my experience anyway...
