Tail Gate Lights

Post by coach »

Help....when viewed from behind at night my DELICA is an ICA.

I think I need to get at the lights that light up the rear letters from inside, if anyone has done this already a liitle help would be much appreciated. Do I need to start taking things apart on the inside or on the outside??

HI all, check the website, I remember a bunch of posts about how the left side bulb always seemed to be burnt out, and how to access it. Cheers, Christine of the TardisDeli. :M

I searched and found some references to the rear strip bulbs but no description of how to access them. Can someone point me?

Don't have the exact post but great info on the UK site.

ALSO, if yours doesn't light up at all it might be that it wasn't meant to be. I recall the UK site talking about this tail gate lights being only on Delica after a certain manufacture date...

Hi, some of this trunk led dont have this option super exceed mostly newer model super exceed all lighted.but some exceed model, dont.
so can get the bulb at canadian tire or napa bring sample & then match it.then you just need to solder the bulb to the sucket as this bulb is solder direct to the bulb sucket.
not hard to take it out.
cheers;
Mardy

How to access lift gate lights?

Post by torchard »

But how to access them? Do I take the Delica strip off? It seems like it friction fits over some clips e.g. push down on the length of the strip to free the bottom then lift off? Is that correct?

Excited at the prospect of discovering something new about my Deli, I checked my tailgate last night... pleasantly surprised to see it IS lit (mine is only a 1992 Starwagon as far as I can tell - no Exceed) and... true to my character tho it is backwards to what seems to be the norm....

The right side is not working and so I am driving a "DEL" and it has no "acceler-on" the highway.... :-D
Sorry.. bad computer joke.

PS... I expected the lighting to be red, not bluish...

If we get together we can light up the entire DEL-ICA

Mine are green, not blueish, haven't ripped the back apart to fix it yet.

Hmmm... if we drove side-by-side, we'd still not be as wide as a Hummer and would have to avoid the "ICA-DEL" situation....

Waiting for a Delica tinkering day... the Honey-Do list is a bit long at the moment...

Oh yeah... I guess green IS the colour. Kind of a weird green tho hence my "blueish" comment - couldn't decide what to call it :-)

Cheers!

I think the colour of the illumination will be dependent upon what colour bulb is in the bulb holder. I had the back panel off the other day, trying to fix the rear gate locking mechanism (but that's another story), and from what I saw, the 'DELICA' light is actually a fibre-optic arrangement with clear fibre. The letters in the lens are a light-blue colour, hence the eerie blue colouring. Since there are two bulbs, I would speculate there are two separate sections of fibre. Cool eh?

There seems to be no logic to which models have/don't have the illuminated DELICA sign? As Mardy says, most late model S/Exceeds have them, but other than that it's a lucky dip as to which ones will have it?

Mararmeisto is correct, the illumination works off fibre optics but the colour the lettering illuminates 'should' be a green tint and certainly every one I've ever seen here in the UK has been green. The DELICA should look chrome in the daylight, but some lose the chrome effect (like mine!) and end up looking grey/white (but still glowing green at night)

I have thought of changing the illumination to red and possibly a twin filament bulb where the wording gets brighter when you brake! Cool huh??

Maybe you guys could re-work the fibre optics to make 'DELI' glow white, green or blue and then make the 'CA' glow red! 8-) 8-) All you're doing is swapping one letter on the optics and there you have it - a subtle plug for the club!

Anyway - enough of those crazy ideas.....I'll see if I can find a link on the UK site to one of the guys who changed the bulbs (you do NOT want to buy them from Mitsubishi...I think they were about $60 each!!!!)
