Hi,
Just prepping a new head for install..
I have purchased the copper washers (base seals) that sit in the injector ports, the return seals that mount on the top of the injector before the fuel rail, and the injector tip heat shields. However, I'm not sure where these heat shields go. Is it possible that my injectors didn't have these initially? Any input would help. Here is a link to the part. It has a rounded side and a flat side.

The base seals go in first, they sit between the head and the very tip of the injector (surrounding the injector needle/pintle). The old ones might still be in the head- they get gunked up with soot. You'll want to scratch around in there with something pointy to see if you can find them.
When you're installing the new ones, the rounded side goes down- towards the head, the flat side goes towards the injector.

Nothing says "poor workmanship" more than wrinkles in the duct tape.
