is there anything protecting the odometer from tampering? it looks like it would be far too easy to just roll back

To be honest I didn't even think to look at that! From the pics I'd say it looks dead easy to clock the odo....but I'll rip it all apart again when I get chance and see how easy it would be. (I don't want to fag with my mileage reading, so I'll only try it on the first barrel....)

I'll report back once I know some more.

I assume you are asking this more as a suspicious query about 'authentic' mileage readings than a desire to roll your own mileage back??

Took guage assembly apart,looks the same as yours.The chime must be somewere else in the dash.Going to try to find the headlamp on chime to see if there both in the same location.

Found the chiming module on the firewall above the brake pedal , black box about 1 1/2" square , large multi wire plug on it. Disconnected it and it shut off my reverse and headlight chime , if you have speed chime I bet its the same box cuz its got 6 or so wires going to it.

Then there must be a way to only remove the speed chime as I have the reverse beeping but not the speed warning...

....and my headlights still yell at me when I forget to turn them off, and I beep when I back up.

Here's a thought: is the speed chime adjustable? Say for 110km/h or 120km/h? That would be a more practical speed for our highways.

6 wires 2 wires per alarm, sounds about right. someone just needs to connect one at a time and find the lights alarm and the backup alarm and clearly the other 2 are the speed one, take pics and post please. I would but I', super busy and I don't have the alarm. Just came to me, I'll go see what wires are cut on mine and post that up, that should help :)

If you find which wires warn you if you leave your headlights on Please let me know as even my old VW turns off the headlight if the key is out. A buzzer to remind me that I forgot my headlights would be a great way to kill that old habit of mine...

well mine must have been disabled internally or on the other end of the wire.

I would start cutting wires but I like the way mine is right now :)

my reverse chime still works, however my headlight chime doesn't... I may have to play with that plug...

I think there are at least two different chimes? My reversing beeper is totally different to the 'lights on' or 'keys in ignition' sound!

I was always convinced that the reverse beeper was located to the right of the steering wheel (three slots in the dashboard) but I've never bothered to look any closer into it.

I might try and have a poke-around today....

THANKS LOKI FOR THE PICTURES.FOUND THE BUZZER,MINE ONLY HAS 2 WIRES,1988?DIS/CONNECTED & WENT ON FREEWAY.STILL HAS A CHIME.ON MY LOWER DASH PANEL BY MY LEFT KNEE THERE IS A GRILL THAT LOOKS LIKE A TWEETER COVER.REACHED UP IN BEHIND
& FOUND ANOTHER 2 PIN HARNESS.DIS/CONNECTED,WENT DOWN FREEWAY.CHIME IS NOW GONE.THANKS FOR EVERYONES HELP.I DID NOT HAVE A CAMERA WITH ME TO TAKE PICTURES.

I would echo the 'two chimes' sentiment: the Moon Machine's backup chime sounds like a bell, while the lights-still-on alert sounds more like a buzzer than a chime.

FWIW, on Gumdrop:

The backup warning is "beep beep beep".

The keys in the ignition warning is "ting ting ting".

If there is a speed warning, it's set to above 125 km/h.

well, I found a plug under my dash today that wasn't connected, I plugged it in and the headlights on without the key in the ignition warning buzzer now works, but still no keys in ignition warning (which is fine by me) only problem is that the way my alarm is wired in to the headlights causes too much buzzing when that buzzer is enabled, so I suppose I'll either have to modify how that is wired, or do without the headlight warning...

should mention that the headlight on without keys warning is a solid "BZZZZZZZZZZZZZ"
