Maiden Voyage

Post by Twister »

So my boyfriend after over a year of drooling over a Delica has finally done the deed and purchased a beautiful 1990 white super exceed with less than 75,000 kms on it!

That was last week. This week we are packing it up, driving from Vancouver down to Joshua Tree and then on to the baja of Mexico for some surfing and sun.

We've both been trolling this forum for the past little while soaking up some knowledge and some great tips that all other forum users have given. And I want to say thanks to everyone! Both of us can't wait to share our adventures in the Delica (we have yet to name her) and tell everyone how our maiden voyage works out.

P.S. We have an "audio centre" in the back. Does anyone know what this is? My guess is karaoke. I admit I could be wrong...lol...

Wow, well done!

Just purchased and already going on a road trip! Please make sure it's fully serviced before leaving, I'd hate to see your next post broken down in Mexico! (some of us might have to volunteer to go to your rescue, along with our surf boards!) :-D Ok, not meaning to scare you, just talking from experience...

Your audio center is a rear remote stereo complete with a karaoke system but you also need the original front stereo to make it work... Bring on your microphone!

All the best to you guys, I've done that same road trips a few times on my earlier VW bus and loved it. Surfing was great too and the water sooooo warm!

Be safe! :-D

As Delicat said, the rear stereo is a Karoake unit. Pretty funny that it comes stock from the factory that way. There's 3 input jacks (one for the driver 1/8", one for the singer 1/4", and an aux input 1/4". You could plug a guitar into the aux and then you'd have a travelling gig/surfmobile!

Have fun on the road trip, take lots of pics so the rest of us stuck up north singing karaoke songs about snow can live the dream vicariously!

Cheers

If you still have the stock audio unit up front, you will have noticed that the FM band is completely different, and the AM tuning is problematic (9 kHz steps instead of our 10 kHz).

But, what I did before replacing the front unit was to plug a walkman-type radio into the audio centre in back. Presto, instant radio. And if you plug iPod or MP3 in, you get tunes that way too. And if you use a 10' extension cable on either one, then you can have the radio or iPod up front so you can control it!

Hey guys thanks for the info. We are sititng outside Ensenada on the last week of our trip. For the most part the Delica has been making quite a stir. My boyfriend is getting a complex since no one wants to talk about him only about his ride. We just had the hippie owner of a local pizza place down here scurrying around the back to check out the kareoke machine so I thought it woould be best to make sure tht what I told him was correct. I AM DETERmined to get it up and running.

Thanks again for all the info. I think that there will be a lot of americans visiting the site soon in an attempt to get their hands on a Delica.
