and now for the hardest part....

Post by Green1 »

well, according to the importer I am now the proud owner of a white 1991 Mitsubishi Delica L300 Super Exceed P35W with crystal-light roof...

now comes the hardest part... waiting for it to cross that little puddle between japan and here...

patience is a virtue... one which I don't think I have....

I'm told that will make 6 of the beasties in Calgary now. We're all gonna have to plan a get-together and compare notes now.

unfortunately things haven't gone as smoothly as we might like...
I flew out to pick up the vehicle this week and drove part way home, but on the way up the coquihalla highway I blew the upper rad hose, once getting towed down in to hope we discovered that the head gasket was blown... I called the importer and and they arranged to tow the vehicle back to vancouver for repair...
so once again I am Delica-less....

On the bright side, the Importer had been absolutely amazing through all this, they arranged, and paid for the towing over 100km back to vancouver, they're paying for all repairs, my plane ticket home, and have offered to ship the van out to me all at their cost... their communication has also been excellent.

if anyone's looking to import I strongly recommend JDM Wholesale in Delta BC, they've been really good through the whole process.

Wow that's a real bummer after that long wait  ; sounds like your taking it well though! Great to hear positive feed back about JDM wholesale too. I would have blown a gasket myself if that happened to me.

Chin up, you'll have a great running Delica once it's all repaired, hopefully in no time. We all have to remember that these are lightly used 15 year old vehicles; many things should be checked very thoroughly. When we got out first we changed every fluid and greased everything, you just reminded me that I can't put off changing my Rad fluid in my work van any more. It'll be distilled water (I believe very important in diesel) and high quality anti freeze following a good flush this weekend!

Hope your driving your Delica soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! At least before the snow gets too deep.

Green1, I see you have a nice white Delica as your avatar, does that mean that yours is home safe and sound?!? :D

Emailed with Wayne at Luxury today, and my new one should be on the boat at the end of the month, so I should be able to drive it home about 6 weeks after that.

Cheers,
Jon

no, that's one of the pics I took at the dealer when I tried to pick it up the first time... things have gone anything but smoothly on this whole process, the importer has been great about it all, but patience is certainly required.

I got an email earlier this week indicating that the new head had finally arrived at the mechanic in BC, so now I'm just waiting for it to get on to the vehicle, and then for me to pick it up, or for them to ship it out... not sure which we'll do yet, I kind of want to drive it back, but at the same time it'd probably be easier to let them ship it...

either way... "soon"... I hope...

Are you sure a head gasket can't be found in Vancouver? With the number of them being imported, I would think something like that could be found. I would try the following:

Rocky Mountain Imports - owned by John Hamilton. He only deals in JDM parts and supplies many other shops. His prices are pretty decent and responds promptly to e-mails. He's at 1774 Lilac Drive, Surrey BC V4A 5C9. (604) 531-6017 and fax (604) 531-6097. info@rockymountainimports.net. Web site http://www.rockymountainimports.net).

ATEB - 7088 Merritt Ave., Burnaby, BC V5J 4R6. (604) 438-7537. Web is http://www.ateb.ca. They are a busy repair shop which specializes in JDM and they stock parts.

Abbotsford Japan Auto http://www.abbotsfordjapanauto.com/ is an importer and a repair shop. They stock many parts or have quick access to them from their company in Japan. They tend to be a bit pricey.

Maximum Overdrive Auto Importers http://www.maxoverdrive.ca/ also an importer who stocks parts. On the web site is says just for his customers but he is always advertising parts on IH8MUD.
130-3411 NO 3 ROAD, RICHMOND B.C.V6X 2B8
Tel: 604-726-3109 604-304-1405
Fax: 604-677-5568

Call them and see if someone has it and get a price and then call your importer with the info. Good luck, John

Hi Green1,

I'm so sorry to hear about your ongoing saga with the Deli! :( :( :(

If you are REALLY stuck for a head gasket, I could get one flown out to you ASAP  (you'd have it in a matter of days! :D )

Find out what sort of timescale the dealers are looking at for getting one, and if the time is 1 week or more, let me know and I'd be happy to get you one sent over quickly! 8)

I can also get it trade price, so could save you some money on the long run! (of course I expect the dealers to be paying for it anyway, but jsut thought I'd mention it.... )

Regards for now and best of luck with it...I'll be keeping my fingers crossed.... :?

FINALY!!!

Post by Green1 »

Picked up the Delica late last night from the mechanic in Nanaimo, took a late ferry back to the mainland, stayed there over night, and Just got home to Calgary this evening... I am finally driving my Delica... and only 5 and a half months after I ordered it...

I also did a Delica.ca public service... the ferry I took back last night from the island was basically deserted (less than 2 rows of cars on the vehicle deck) and I didn't notice anything at the time, however as we left the ferry at tswassen terminal my girlfriend looked at me and said "ummm... hon... do you recognize something beside us?" and sure enough there was a dark grey over light grey low roof Delica cruising along side by side with our new Delica :) a little ways later he pulled over to the side of the road and I stopped to say hi, he hadn't heard of this site, but was looking for a place like this... so I gave him the address (the things we Delica owners do at 1:30am... really... (had I pulled over by anyone else they probably would have locked the doors and sped off!)

I bet you can't stop grinning from ear to ear??

Enjoy it, make the most of it, you've deserved it! 8)

Congratulations! Awsome to hear your wait is finally over. :D :D

How about posting some pictures of your ride! Cow town's a great home for a Delica, when we drove around there last summer we got tons of attention, way more then in Vancouver!

Cheers,
