Hi, I must start by saying that I am not an owner yet but looking for the right one. I just hope it comes along soon! I do need to say a big thanks for this site and the info that it has given me.
I have found a Delli here in Edmonton Alberta that sounds good, but it's an auto. I was looking for a stick. Any suggestions?
The other question I have is in regards to main and rod bearings. I have heard that the babbot matirial used over seas was soft and it' suggested that the be changed. Any one else heard of this and how easy is it to do in a Delica?

hello there! from what i c you might have a hard time finding a stick most importers get auto but im sure there is some out there, i as well wanted a stick but.... when i laid my eyes on this one i had to get it! as for seals i have no idea.I hope u get what your lookin for,best luck to u

Hi and welcome!

Just want to make sure you realize that the stick will have poorer mileage on the highway as the gear ration isn't as good as the automatic (for fuel economy and RPM range anyway). The automatic will have lower RPM at highway speed unlike most cars where the stick is better for economy...

I'll let some other "expert" answer your rod/bearing question, mine had no issue and runs like a new car.

Hey thanks for the insite. How do you find your auto for power output? Had a friend of mine say that an auto would be gutless. Would be nice to hear the truth from someone that owns one.

First of all, it's a diesel, so you're not going to set any land speed records with it to begin with.

Second of all, if you're trying to be the first one through the intersection after the light changes, well...

If you want a 4X4 with a reasonable bottom end, then this is a good vehicle for that. It won't pull the Space Shuttle to the launch pad, but it'll pull around a small trailer (about 1 tonne) with little protestation.

I've only drove my automatic and I'm very pleased with it. I don't find it bad at all but I'm very aware it's a 4000lbs with a 4cyl diesel. This van as taught me to slow down and drive "peacefully"!

Funny how my stress level is way down since I started driving this thing. But don't get me wrong, you can keep with traffic if you want but it will just cost you more on fuel.

It's true that the auto gets better fuel economy and runs 200 - 400 RPM lower at hwy speeds of ~100-110 kph, but the manual does get good economy. I have averaged 11.8 l / 100 km over the past 4 months - it really depends on how you drive. If you have a heavy foot, you'll burn through diesel in a hurry. I think the manual has a bit more pop off the line relative to an auto, but that's not really why you buy these vehicles. I looked for a manual for around 4 months and there are a few out there. Be patient and get what you want - there are a lot of vans to choose from.

The soft bearing material you are thinking of is not in the Mitsubishi diesel's.

It's found more commonly on the HDJ81's (landcruiser's). The bottom end bearings are usually replaced by local dealers (if they didn't or have no idea what you're talking about then I'd recommend to leave) or mechanics themselves.

The bearing material in the 4D56's are solid bearings.

You have nothing to worry about so long as the maintenance was done routinely.
