Official Introduction
Okay, I've been here a few weeks and asked all sorts of questions, but never did the official introduction of me and my Deli because, well, it was just me, sans Deli.
Well, I've got the Deli now (and a pic of it is hopefully attached to this, if not, I'll have to figure out what I did wrong), so here goes:
My name is Valerie and I live just outside of Halifax, NS. I breed and show dogs, and "Miloki" is actually the name of my kennel (and as soon as I find time to get around to it, the kennel logo will appear on the side window of the Deli). I had no intentions of getting a Deli - they're kind of hard to find in NS, anyway - I was looking into SUVs, but didn't want to feed the full-size ones, and the mid-size SUVs just didn't have enough room. Most dog people end up with mini-vans, but I'm not the mini-van sort. I realized the Deli was the perfect mix, a true SUV - sport utility VAN!
I never would have believed I would buy a used vehicle sight unseen. I'm very grateful to all the advice that people on this site offered, and particularly grateful to Fred and Roger for thoroughly inspecting it for me (although I had it inspected at a garage, I wanted the opinion of somebody who was familiar with Delis, and they were very kind to do so for a complete stranger - and from what I hear, if they ever consider a change of career, they would be shoe-ins for a CSI unit!).
I picked up the Deli in Calgary yesterday and drove it up to St. Albert (just north of Edmonton). I absolutely love it! Now I've got about a week to get a little bit of work done to it, and I'll be driving it back to Nova Scotia. My Doberman, Romi, will be joining me. Normally she likes to curl up in the back seat when driving, but I have this irresistable urge to teach her to ride in the front, where anybody who doesn't know these are RHD will think she's behind the wheel... It doesn't have a name yet. It was almost "The Beast," but I decided it's just not bulky enough for that. Ever since I got my Doberman, a lot of words have begun with "Dober" for my roommate and me: she was the Doberpup, then the Dobergirl or Doberdog, when she took to running through the mint in the back yard, we referred to the fragrance she brought in with her as Dobermint, so now I'm toying with the name 'Doberdeli' - after all, if I just had the Basenjis I could have stayed with an extended cab truck, but the extra room needed by a Doberman necessitated a larger vehicle, so it's really due to her that I've got this thing!
[the pic, btw, is from the seller, taken during Calgary's last snow fall - I'll have to add my own pic later, maybe one with the Doberman]

Or "Dobermitsi"... but hey, it's your van. What's all that white stuff on top of it?
Welcome and well met. So you're going to be driving it ALL the way back to NS? Wow! I think you might beat out ghmorris for distance - you'll have to keep track and report back. Happy and safe driving.

Re: Official Introduction
Hi Valerie, congrats on finally doing it. I am glad all the Delica family here could help you, that's the best part of this website.
I vote for DobiDeli. I used to have a dobi cross, huge dog who thought he was a lap dog, hard to shift gears on my tiny car with him sprawled all over the front seats and me. But I love the idea of you having him in the front seat of the Deli -- really make heads turn.
Keep in touch. Christine.

Re: Official Introduction
Wow, that's one loooong drive! Good you'll have company
I like the idea of dog in the front seat too, though my pal konadog is not allowed past the back of the front seats for safety reasons
Maybe when he settles down a little more, though in the meantime he has a nice bench seat all to himself. He always wears his new safety harness now too. Poor slob, he would rather walk or run than ride in ANY vehicle - even a delica!? Anyway, hope you enjoy Doberdeli and have a fun drive home!

Re: Official Introduction
I will add my official welcome to the DoberDeli. I enjoyed the short drive I had in it, and you are welcome. I always enjoy recommending other people spend money
. I look forward to hearing about the road trip. Hope Romi cooperates and rides up front occasionally, just to yank the chains of complacent drivers ROTFL

Re: Official Introduction
Alas, my Doberman appears to be far too good a canine traveller - try though I might to encourage her to ride up front, she keeps insisting on jumping into the back and curling up on the floor! Maybe I'll just get a big stuffed-toy Doberman to sit in that spot!
