Newby with a million questions.

Post by Patsplace »

Howdy folks,
Drove a Delicia for the first time today and while I have doubts about the individual unit that I drove, I'm seriously thinking that this may be my new ride. Naturally I have a ton of questions and more than likely this is the place to ask them.

I drive an average of 100 miles a day, 3 days a week, grab naps by folding down the drivers seat on the ferries and am using a Mazda MPV 2WD currently. My MPV has about 300K on it and I'm looking for another vehicle. Hopefully something with better mileage than the MPV.

Would you say the Delicia would fill the bill or is it more in the 4WD family that isn't really designed for fairly high highway miles?

How long does it seem to take to get over the RT hand drive confusion? Can't imagine it taking much time at all.

What's the generally accepted normal mpg and any idea on the life span of the engines?

I was certainly impressed today with the power and handling of the unit that I drove but noticed that it ran really rough and shook pretty good at idle. I can't imagine this rough running is normal. Probably a pump problem.

Anyway, they're neater'n sliced bread and some of the units that I've looked at here are absolute beauties. Bit of a tight fit for 6'3" 275 lbs. but not an impossible thing to do.

Anyway, neat sleds!!!

Regards
Pat

As the general consensus appears to be that I do not know what I'm talking about, and cause more harm than good, I am removing this post so that others are not tricked in to following my ill-advised instructions.

Agreed, diesels are a bit rough at idle. If it's shaking really bad, the motor mounts / suspension could be worn out which is something a mechanic can verify.

Our mechanic says that the fuel injectors get a bit clogged up from the vehicle sitting in Japan for months, even years. 500km of "spirited" driving should clear them up nicely which can smooth out your idle.

With any JDM Import it can be hard to tell how long the vehicle has been sitting in Japan, how it was driven, and when it was last maintained. We recommend a complete fluid flush as soon as possible along with an inspection by a certified mechanic.
